How is someone half jewish?
This is something I really just don't understand. My friend told me that he was half Jewish, half Christian. I said that's ridiculous... ect.
Anyway, could someone explain this? How are you half of a religion?

Being Swedish is not a race, neither is being Hispanic, or being Taiwanese or being American. But, I doubt you'll chastise people who claim to be half-swedish, half-hispanic, half-taiwanese, or half-american. They are national, cultural, and ethnic heritages. Being Jewish is inheriting a religious heritage, and it is also a cultural and an ethnic heritage. The world is not simply divided into Black race, White race, yellow race and brown race. The world is a lot bigger than you think.
being jewish is not a race.. it's a religion
its called jews for jesus
oh that's the only reason? gosh I thought it had something to do with Jews being a separate ethnic group
Ethnicity=race now?
Lol I know a guy who calls himself half Muslims and half Hindu...
This is because jews are an ethnic group characterized by the religion of Judaism rather than just the religious group. So if one parent is Jewish the child can be, I guess, considered "half Jewish".
are you really this stupid
No...its quite legitimate. The only reason why jewish people are considered a race is because they have a country that is just devoted to the religion. Its kind of like why Christians aren't considered a race.
if one side of your family (say mothers side or fathers side) is jewish and the other one not, you're technically half jewish
and yes its possible, lets say for example your grandmother is jew, his son (your father) marries your mother both catholic, then you will have something of jew in you so u could say u are half jewish (although its more like a quarter)
judaism is an ethno-religious group. technically, the religion is technically passed down through the mother. with secular lifestyles, you see jews marrying non-jews more commonly and only remaining "jewish" by tradition (see catholics).

Half a pizza, half of the ovens
One of his parent is Jewish and the other one is a different religion.
