First "Fun Chat" Now theres a Separate Forum for Everything

fun chat was probably the worst idea ever. now we've got separate forums for xbox AND playstation for chrissake. so necessary to have a separate anime page right. oh there's also one for apple products. it's like I'm on a vbulletin based forum again. it's horrible.

having one page for all non-ms topics is better than having a million-n-one under-utilized forums. get it together mr b. you put me at the top of the page so you obviously wanted to hear my input. there's my personal blog post.

there is only one forum and it is show/forum/6/

Site Talk has been here for a while, and this thread would still be the correct place to have it. Just because you don't like a section, doesn't mean you should post it elsewhere, but i see where you're coming from because it's about Chat.

The mods did suggest having Sticky threads about those influx of threads like you mentioned (Pokemon being a big one), but MrBasil has gone with making separate forums instead. Perhaps we'll get Sticky powers later. These new sections are still...new, so I think it'd be good to see how things play out before dismissing them as a bad idea.

There's more to talk about than Pokemon, Anime, and LoL. Chat Island is whatever people want to talk about, just as it has been in the past with the plentiful threads of Christianity talks, Love advice, and political debates. While yes, you're right, we are a Korean MMO fansite, our users are not all Korean MMO players. It's impossible to cater to everyone. Having a "Chat" section on a MapleStory-related site is one way to try to cater to this who aren't active players, but still want the community Basil has to offer.

"if anything there should only be a chat forum and _______ one."
With that thinking, we'd be in the same situation as before the new sections were made. Everyone wants their own little piece of the pie.
I think that 'warning' you got is an automated BasilBot comment for when a mod moves your thread. Was it in Chat? Because a thread talking about how the site works probably suits the Site section better.

I am glad there are new forums made, mainly for the popular topics like LoL, Pokemon, and Anime/Manga. I think there are some forums that aren't really necessary, or could be combined with others, but that's just me.

You disagree, though I don't really see your reasoning behind it, or how to improve the situation either.
I posted it on chat island because I don't like site talk (you can see my distaste old vbulletin forums). I think popular topics are still better suited for normal chat. there will always be a influx of new threads around the time of a new release (see: pokemon). that's when you contain things in a general thread.

now that a wide variety of topics that were once part of chat have their own separated forums, chat has fewer posts. as another basiler stated above, what exactly is chat island to be used for now? we're on a korean mmo fansite. animu and video games are our bread and butter. if anything there should only be a chat forum and anime/vidya one.

it really makes you wonder what the chat section is for, considering that it is says "talk about topics not related to MS". with all the new subforums, the only things that really can't be filtered out are miscellaneous blog/joke posts, advice/homework help requests, or simple question and answer type threads. the fun section should never have existed for more than a month seeing as how the community did not choose to transition to another section just for participating in stuff like "post your picture!". i know people don't like others to say it, but the current chat section is on its last leg before becoming the generic vbulletin chat section where people glance once and never return.

Pretty sure the PS/xbox topics could have easily gone into non-MS tech talk depending on what you're talking about.
He should make the non-MS section bigger and have some of the hot tipocs be on the front page because imo those places are kind of dead.
I was someone who advocated for an anime section as there were too many threads related to that topic, but there was absolutely no need for to fragment Chat further by adding the other 12 unnecessary forks.

There's a section for video games, but then it gets specific (e.g. Pokemon, Combat Arms sections) for no reason. Mr. B should have been fully aware that this kind separation only works with a large user base, but he went and did it anyways.

I guess this is the final nail-in-the-coffin for Chat. RIP /6/, you had a good run.
the fragmentation is almost at sleepywood levels of awful. they had an entire subforum dedicated to venting and raging. also their pathetic intelligent discussion korner.
Chill, what the hell is the big deal? I like it more since chat was bombarded with "WHAT ANIMU SHULD I WATCH?" or "HALP ME PLZ, I LIKE THIS GURLLLLL" now it decreased significantly.

Also, whenever I feel like discussing about anime to someone I can just go to the anime section.

So, personally I feel that this is a good idea.

You are blowing this whole thing out of proportion.
all part of the fun, chief. you've got your randomness, your advice, your entertainment all on one page. popular topics get consolidated in single threads for lively discussion. everybody posts, everybody replies, lather, rinse, repeat.

Thought I agree with you to some extent, you have to realize that part of it is so that threads can actually get some coverage.

I remember seeing a great deal of threads with zero posts get pushed back to page 5-6 because all the popular basilers were getting all the posts and people who simply wanted some advice or share some interesting video's would not be able to because of some random 2-3 share your photo threads.

Also, it seemed like a pain for mods to regulate. Now it's more organized and even though other forums aren't getting as much attention, it is only because Chat Island has been the place to go for the past 6-7 years. At least for me.
