Nexon will be doing one in a future update which will probably happen sometime winter GMS. It will put all characters under 30 in deletion phase and if the user doesn't cancel it they get deleted after a certain period of time. I'm really excited for this because I have a few Igns that are taken by low lvls.

Nothing wrong with collecting igns. It's one of the few things least likely to be ruined by Nexon suddenly flooding the market and making everything rare common or just eliminating a feature you used to love For example I used to collect chairs...now they're ultra common. I used to be proud of the family I made in Scania with my first char, I had over 1,500 members...then Nexon eliminated the family feature. I ued to collect medals...now they're mostly useless. On and on. But Ign's still remain and I love them because of that and the fact that I love collecting things in game and rl.

it's just as weird buying names, especially since they most likely come from hackers / those crowd of people ;P

Yes! Totally agree, lol. I just burst out laughing at some of these made up word igns. I don't want to name any because it'll probably end up being a friend of mine and I don't want to hurt anyones feelings...but yeah, its just so ridiculous sometimes.
As long as the characters they purge are not associated with any character that is over something like lvl 100ish, I'm fine with that and it's pretty much inevitable if Nexon wants to push Maplestory far into the future.
I would be willing to bet more than 20million of those characters are mules and characters from back in the day. When maple was popular and getting to level 30/50 was a challenge.
