Yeah, I play EMS as well and they are definitely not going to ruin what is a good way for them to obtain money via those people who will buy hourglasses to extend their medal. This is nothing new anyways and there are also a few recent examples of how NexonEU avoids anything that will affect negatively their profits.

Spending a few hundred k NX Cash just to keep an item a few months more isnt worth it, as NexonEU arent retards and obviously wont bring 1 NX hourglasses event back while those medals are available.
