@Liddy: They've already stated there will be differences between the Wii U and 3DS. The biggest lure of fighting games however, is that consoles tend to have a more robust community, online and offline, as well as being easier to play with friends. ie One Wii U will allow 4 people, but you'll need 4 3DSs. Also, since this is the 4th iteration, it already has an extremely large console consumer base. And yeah, I'm not saying it wasn't their fault they didn't have better launch titles, but this is the second generation they've attempted to curtail the nextGen by releasing a year in advance. I'm guessing because it's easier to get bogged down as the "Casual" console, amongst the PS4 and XboxOne if released around the same time.
It'll actually probably create a larger consumer base for the WiiU, as it'll be piggy backing off of the great sales the 3DS has been enjoying of late. It's one thing to play Smash on the 3DS another on the big screen. I'm sure they're banking on using that to drum up further support of a rather lackluster opening for the WiiU.
Why would that make a 3DS owner buy a Wii U when they can buy the SAME game a lot cheaper on their 3DS? I really don't think this will boost Wii U sales by a lot due to the 3DS release. And I blame Nintendo for the fail opening for the Wii U... I have had my Wii U since release in UK (November) And the ONLY decent game was Mario Bros U... Until now... 9 months later when they release Pikmin 3... NONE of the games we're waiting for come out until the END of this year or NEXT year. The games are the reason for the lack of Wii U sales, they killed their own console with their greed to release before Sony.

Honestly, it's not really that big of a deal. They'll probably have a mode much like the original Smash Bros. where you fight up the ranks and finish with Master Hand... maybe have a challenge or "All Star Mode" for single player content. They just won't be wasting time/game memory on something like the Subspace Emmisary this time around... which is not really something all that major to lose.

Didn't Nintendo leak some cutscenes in the trailer for brwal in 2007?

Wow this is stupid, I REALLY enjoyed the Subspace Emissary, I didn't even know that crap was leaked.
They're losing a lot by doing this, I'm certainly not happy about it, the music that plays during story mode fit so well and help me enjoy the game too.
I'm just angry that they are releasing it on 3DS and it won't be cross-platform multi-player therefor the community will be split in 2... What is the point in that? the playerbase will be smaller if they keep doing this and the sales for Wii U will NEVER go up if they mainly focus on 3DS -.- I love 3DS but they need to start making more games Wii U only so I don't sit here feeling I wasted 300 pounds for the EXACT same stuff I can get on my 3DS.
@Davyn: Oh, really? But, but that was long ago. What kind of grudge is this? Or is he getting lazy? I liked the cutscenes. I never saw these leaked cutscenes from Brawl either or maybe I did. Either way that was long ago and I enjoyed them and did the the Emissary over and over up to 5 times. Then found out about the cutscene replay. Then I did it again cause apparently I missed some things. Such as changing which character I wanted to be like Link or Zelda or the character I freed. Since the other times I just did the same thing over.

They were leaked? Is it anywhere to be viewed?

Stop complain, at least they made online battling better, which IMO is what it's all bout.
Show me these leaked cutscenes? Unless the ones like villager comes in and wii fit ones are leaked the leaked. If so then why did they not stop em. Might as well not go to E3 at all and show much.
Villager and Wii Fit Trainer were official trailers from Nintendo...

They are referring to how a lot of the story and cutscenes from Subspace Emissary in Brawl were leaked months before the game was actually launched.

Does not make the slightest difference in my eyes. Keep it in, take it out, do whatever. Sure, I enjoyed Classic & Adventure Modes on Melee but eh. More interested in this customization thing for the characters they are talking about.

P.S. Please speed up Ganon.

Sincerely, an advanced Melee Ganon player

You realize only 1 of the 3 smash games had a story mode. Just cause there's no subspace emissary doesn't mean there won't be some sort of substitute.

No big deal in my opinion. They'll make up for it in someway.
@zombieoverlord Idk what tears you are talking about. Anyways its true. For example randomly tripping is the most stupid feature ever. Smash balls where fun... but not for serious brawls because who ever manages to get them is guaranteed to win. Unless your character has a garbage smash. Anyways I stand by my statement this just means that smash bros 4 is gonna be that much better.
Final smashes have been confirmed for Smash 4.

Honestly it's a bit of a non-issue. I just am not looking forward to unlocks like what they did with Mewtwo. What was that, 20 hours of time in matches or 300 matches? Not even a good kind of choice.

@Chema: It's not the same.
@DragonBandit: It's too difficult to compare the two games. I prefer Melee when I'm by myself (it's superior in technical terms), but brawl when I'm with friends (more of a party game.
People actually gave a crap about the story mode/sub space emissary? Its a fighting game lmao thats what it always has been. Brawl sucked and the story mode was no better. To me it was just another way to unlock characters. Who honestly cares? Melee was a way better game and it didn't have that crap.

Single player isn't much. To be honest I've spent less than .5% of my time playing smash bros on single player (Usually to unlock characters).
I admit, I've played over 5000 matches in just brawl alone (and gotten the "Congrats, just a penny per game" message), and missing out on a story mode campaign won't cause SSB4 to take a hit. The story mode didn't feel like legit Brawl; it felt like some mini game, like Dead Ops Arcade in Black Ops.
idk about you, but many people took brawl story mode in lieu of a good co-op kirby game
thanks to smash bris kirby games keep getting delayed

this is retarded, people dont play space emissary for the boring one-dimentional excuse plot but for the co-op goodness

Yay.

Still pretty pissed off though, just because some people saw some videos of the game they decided to punish all of us.
