Why do we read books?

What makes them so entertaining to us?

It's weird how I like to write but I don't like to read.

Well, books can be fun. I guess I don't like to read because I don't have enough books that I like to read. My teachers are throwing Machiavelli and Foucault at me and it's interesting reading, but hard to get through. I'm a fiction person myself, and learning how to rule the world is fun and all but I'd really prefer an actual story.

OT: I read books because it puts me in the shoes of someone else, whether it's an adventure of some sort, or someone flying on a dragon for countless hours.

IMO it's one of the most natural ways to see someone elses POV within their mind and their experience.

When I'm watching a movie, I sure as hell don't want to hear some kind of freaky monologue over the movie telling me everything the main character is thinking. screw that!
