Should I pay 500
I cracked my school's iPad screen. My $50 warranty, which we have to have, does not cover my situation. My iPad operates the same as before the accident. The school is going to bill me the cost of a new iPad. They're making me a buy an iPad when I already have one that works fine. I understand they have the right to charge me for a new iPad. But, I think the school is wasting my money.
Students keep the same iPad (unless it breaks) until senior year. At the end of senior year you can purchase your iPad for $100 (each year the freshman's get the newest iPad, so basically Senior's iPads are outdated and are not used again by the school. Perhaps the school recycles them or tries to sell them). I proposed that instead of me purchasing a new iPad, I continue to use my iPad with a broken screen. And at the end of senior year I buy it for $100. So, why should I buy a new iPad when I have one that works fine?
What do you think?

they probably write down the serial number before giving it.
Just fix it using a third party method. $15-$30. Also, jailbreak it.
I guess an iPad could cover the costs of textbooks, but textbooks last much longer than iPads. iPads require maintenance and charge. It doesn't make learning fun, it makes it easier to get side tracked in class.
Why America, why?
In addition, the edition you have will probably be cheaper when you're in grade 12.
iPad for only $100? that's cheap
If you keep it a secret (and use your own iPad), would you get away with it? Also, why did you take the school's iPad when you already had one?
Keep the Ipad if they still bother you of buying a new one. Then just buy another one. You got no choice, if they suspend you (which I know wont happen) Just buy a new ipad, I agree schools are wasting money by buying new technology every year.
@DualPirate:
Oh was just curious because they gave out iPads and Laptops to most schools in the main cities of Aus.
I say don't pay the 500 and pay the $100 at the end of your time there, you're in the same scenario as some of my friends down here.

@simaini
The school checks our iPads at the end of the year.

I live in California. Many kiwi teachers visit my school to observe how we learn through iPads.
their ipad, their rules
how did your school find out you broke their ipad?
Do you live in Australia by any chance?
talk with them about it. I"m sure you two can come to a compromise.
I want to go to your school. <3
Better go with windows.
What school do you go to that gives iPads to students to keep for four years-.-
