Maplestory will always be the best game Ive ever played

I don't know why I felt the need to make this thread, but I just patched Maplestory today and haven't gotten around to actually logging on yet.
Let me just start by saying that I will always remember this game as one of the warmest, fondest parts of my childhood/adolescence.

I started playing when I was the 4th grade, which I'm guessing was around 9 years old. I'm now 18. I still remember I was visiting a family friend with my parents in a different city, and I saw their daughter playing it. I can recall that she was online flirting with some guy in Perion, and I didn't really understand what was going on but I thought it was really weird because I was a child at the time. However, seeing all of the online sprites and monsters in the game made me really want to try it out, and I was super excited when I finally got home and downloaded it. My early years of playing the game are a blur, but I remember the essence of "old maplestory, blah blah blah" being super appealing to me. Training in ant tunnel, getting my first job advancement, upgrading my extremely mediocre equips. The first time my dad bought me NX, I was so ecstatic about taking the boat to Orbis and getting myself the metrosexual haircut (I thought it was so cool ). I remember creating my first guild with my brother when we finally racked up enough mesos for it. If I remember correctly, it was 5m mesos to create the guild and 1.5m to get an emblem? Not too sure, but we were both dirt poor afterwards. We decided on the name NxL0verz and dreamed of creating a super exclusive awesome guild. It fell apart pretty quickly haha but that wasn't really a big deal. I remember bragging at school to my 5th grade friend about being strong enough to kill an iron pig. When I went to his house after school, he told his brother and he didn't believe me so I had to log on and show him. When I couldn't do it, I tried to play it off as "Oh crap, I meant ribbon pig. Haha I got 'medal' and 'ribbon' mixed up, honest mistake!" I remember seeing a guy with a garnier and the throwing stars icies for the first time and I knew I had to had them. I made a thief and eventually got enough money for icies, I felt soo cool. (compliments were received). I remember my first few girlfriends on Maplestory, and the heartbreaks that came with them o.o

This was also around the time I met my first and possibly only true friend on Maplestory, Eddy. Some of you might know or remember him as MTSnowy, I still remember way back his username was Sn0wyflakes618 or something like that. How we met was I left a message saying "<3" in his game room and he whispered me later asking me about it while I was killing pigs. I thought the <3 sign was a seal face, idk why I felt compelled to write it in his game room thing haha. If you ever do read this Eddy, I love and miss you dude! You were a great guy and I'm so glad I did get to become your friend through this game.

Anyway, throughout middle school, I got a little carried away in my spendings on NX cash. There was a local walgreens right outside my house, and I would walk there all the time to buy more. I found my old nx cards and receipts in a box in my closet the other day, and I counted $1,120 spent on nx alone. I'm still only a high school senior so that number blows me out of the water lol but that was my spending in the span of like 2 years as a middle schooler. Anyway, I was obsessed with using nx to merch through MTS and make my character look sexy as hell. I loved the idea of having a good looking character and I remember spending sooo much nx on royal hair coupons, exp face, rare equips, etc etc. It was so dumb looking back on it lol I could be using that 1 grand for so many things right now. The game was so rewarding to me, leveling up and getting new equipment was just such a thrill and so exciting to me as a kid. Let me just say that I was never a nerd or anything like that, I was probably as normal as a middle school kid comes but whenever I was sitting in class at school I would constantly be thinking about going home and getting some more levels, getting some merching done or getting more NX cash to change my look.

I don't remember when I actually stopped playing Maplestory or how I managed to not be so in love with it, but every time I do log on to the game a warm flood of memories comes rushing back and I don't want to log off. I guess I made this thread as an ode of sorts to this game and the great memories that I got from it. To all the people that would steal my kills while I was training, thank you for creating such a great competitive atmosphere. To all the people that got ksed by me, thanks for fueling my adolescent ego! To all the people in the community, good and bad, hackers and scammers, thanks for just being the perfect people in such a special game. Thanks for the memories!

And I apologize for the wall of text. Y'all don't actually have to read it, I didn't look over it and it's just a blur of nostalgia. haha

If any stray Basiler reads this, I'd like your help with a very simple matter (it's better if multiple Basilers do it). Basil banned every account I made on here, and so I gave up on using Basil; it's very possible they'll delete this account too (I know I might have broken rule #6 in this post, and I'm technically breaking rule #8 as well [SpellKastor is actually one of @Fruitboot's accounts, I know he would not mind. I don't have any accounts of my own anymore.]) I have basically no intention to post on basil anymore, especially since it was pretty clear Basil didn't want me around anymore, but I'd love to reconnect with the OP. It'd be great if the mods or Mr. B didn't delete this account, but in the event of that happening, if a basiler or a few basilers could simply quote this post so at least the quote remains visible, or PM this quote to fruitboot in case the PM I sent him also gets deleted, then that'd be fantastic. I only want to reconnect with someone I've missed, and I only found this post out of sheer curiosity of whether or not anyone mentioned MTSnowy in the last 2 years (refined google search).

PS: If any other of my old maple friends read this, chances are that I remember you and miss you. DragonzMVP/ThisFading (Bloody Romance is still one of my favorite songs), ReaversXZX (I still tell people about your tagged Dragon Khanjar), TaffyLeaF (been calling someone with a similar username on another game "Nikki" just because lately), and so many others. I'd gladly reconnect with any of you, and you should be able to find me with this post. Just send me a PM with skype or email info on smashboards (even if you have to make an account for it) and I will reconnect with you.

PSS: @AznSeal: I would beat you in SSBM now, pretty handily.
Awesome!

I remember there was a couple of people that would make me drop things in a certain area, and they would change channels and grab it all. At the time, black bandanas and stuff like that looked really cool to me and I had boughten those on the MTS. It was so sad when I lost it all.

Ya I Love this game also, I quit for 6 months because I was mad at Nexon, because of the cube glitch, and when I came back it was like WTH is Gollux? WTH is Cra equips? Picked a bad time to leave I guess, all my godlies were so worthless now. But im back in full force!

I remember spending time with Wendy (Sober), Foomanchu, LAPD and a few others, when Bishes got the door. We would get parties of noobs together in El Nath, then door them into the lava. The funny part is most of them loved it, because they had never seen that area. I remember the first Zak run in Broa with Korwyn. I was only like lvl 81 icemage and Korwyn and I survived it till we killed 1 arm, then I ran out of pots! This was like after an hour or more. Broa was a great place to be, still is actually.

Good times.

Good story, and I completely agree with you. I don't want to leave Maple!
And I started playing around the time you started playing, because I saw my older brother play this game, and I fell in love xD
I know right? Even though a good chunk of Basilers quit playing MS, they still feel the need to browse through Basilmarket, which is a MS fansite, while also talking bad about it. I don't get people like that lol.

OT: Nice read, really brought back some memories!

While it definitely isn't the best game that I've ever played, Maple Story is at least the best online game that I've ever played.
Obviously, I haven't played a lot of online games. >_>

Not gonna lie, Maplestory will always have a special place in my heart, but it changed too much with the years. Now it is just a GoldDigger that always ask me for more...

You can't imagine how well I understand your feeling! Even though I was definitely not a kid when I began playing MS (and I'm most definitely not a kid now, even though I continue to play), I also have a whole lot of happy, fun, dear memories of the times when I was a total newbie and didn't even know how to put my SP and AP (so I made a magician with like 50+ STR so she would have a lot of HP! ), when seeing a lvl30+ person was seeing a true pro, when you could find places to explore and it felt dangerous and new and thrilling... So many things! <3

Maplestory definitely had it's good points but those were slowly removed and what it is now is just not fun. I don't regret the NX I spent as it felt worth it at the time but as it stands too many things require the purchase of nx and too much of it involves RNG which can get to unbelievable levels of bad. Somewhat fun new events get sprinkled in every several months but those get old after the first few days and the best most beneficial ones force you to play everyday or pay NX to hasten the process. The game went from a fun exploration filled journey to grind from 1-200 in a few days(or hours) then quit and wait for the next new thing, afk in hene while showing off your fancy pixels and/or spend a small fortune on funding your character to boss for gear that's far worse than what you already have.

It's not that I want to bash Maplestory but when you look at it realistically, in it's current state, it's very bad. As it stands the main storyline is the only interesting thing left. It's just a shame that it gets updated at such a snail's pace and the ending is often blocked by a new ridiculously broken boss.

I'm sure tons of people have a story like this.

MTSnowy was banned. He bought duped stuff from the MTS in order to resell and make his MTS inventory look pro-er (it did, I was much jelly). Nexon decided to ban him for buying duped items and takind advantage of exploits for personal profit. There were still tons of duped items left in the FM/MTS after he was banned so I guess Nexon didn't like that he was so rich

That's great buddy

But the game is dying. I started around 06ish and quit and start often on the game. It pretty much peaked in 11/12. It was all down hill from there and it keeps going down every day.

Nexon screwed up royally with their greed and while they did make changes to be less nx on everything, it was too late. Perm nx should have been there from the beginning and why make a class that actually required nx to progress further.

Bots and hackers just litter the training maps. Pretty sure nexon is occupied with their bathtub filled with money than to ban them.

At this point buying nx shouldn't be illegal. How do you make money with a sbit economy that is also dying slowly in population. But of course it's illegal because it benefits the players more than the company. Why spend 10k nx on surprise style boxes with a very low chance of getting something over 2b worth when you can cash it in on players instead and avoid the gamble.

Stick around if you want but it ain't going to get better than what it is now.
