I Need Advice and Help on how to gain weight

So I'm 19 years young male and I've been underweight since I was a child. Throughout my life people would always commented on me how skinny I was and I needed to gain weight. For me personally I didn't think it wasn't a big issue when they said it but things have changed. Now, I just came to the slow realization that they were right and I have a serve underweight problem that is actually really unhealthy and not normal at all. Let me give you some perspective: I'm 19, male, 5'7, and weigh 120 lbs. I weigh as much as a girl at my age group and I've been the same weight for the past years . I used to workout but didn't change my diet. I became more stronger and gained a few lbs over a few months but later on gave up due to lack of motivation. Now I'm back to where I started 120 lbs.

So any tips and advice on how to gain weigh fast?

Ideally I would like to gain 20 lbs.

Thx in advance.
I was asking myself the exact same question today. I am 19 years old to. I am 126 pounds though. Listen to this. I went and got 3 pizzas for me and my parents ( these pizzas are not huge but they are a slightly bigger than someone's head. I was able to eat the whole thing by myself, while my parents had to share a pizza and barely finished it. I eat so much but I don't gain weight. I am thankful for this though lol. However, I do want to be atleast 140 pounds. I am also 5'7 XD. I think we have to build muscle and eat like a bodybuilder. Our fast metabolisms won't allow us to gain weight unless we use the energy from the food we get and transfer it into pumping iron. The muscle will help us gain weight and look thicker ( in a muscular way). Just motivate yourself to eating right and working out. I am trying to this as well. My goal for the end of this month is to be 130 pounds. I don't appear skinny actually, I look fit but I do want to get thicker because I feel as though it would match me better.
Your body is not exempt from the laws of energy conservation. You can gain weight, you're just not eating enough.

You don't gain weight from eating a pizza to yourself, you gain weight from eating at a caloric surplus over an extended period of time. I would recommend actually tracking your calories on a day to day basis.

@betaboi101 Cream of wheat is dope man, people say it's baby food but I still eat that on the regular.

What you need to do is eat more! Like a lot more. You're probably not getting the sufficient calories you require to gain weight. You need to increase your calorie intake.
Okay, that's step one. Secondly, you also need to workout. This will help you to build muscle while gaining weight.
The trick is to eat what you like so you'd tend to eat more and eat a lot faster. It doesn't matter what you eat at this point if you're trying to gain muscle, contrary to what the first poster said, you can have as much McDonalds as you want.
And smoothies! Lots of smoothies! You have no idea how much of calories it supplies you with.
I was in your position last year. It took me about 4 months to turn from 120 lbs to 145 lbs. My weight has been constant since then, though. I'm as tall as you in case if you were wondering.

I think some of the few above summed it up pretty neatly. This is just my two cents
3000 calories a day? I struggle to eat 2000 calories a day. I'm not that kind of person that can just shove food down my throat.

I heard mass gainers are good but you get full and don't want to eat anymore for the rest of the day.
Well it might be lower for your height and weight, but I know how you feel. I can't eat a lot, and there's no way I can force it down. You can take the mass gainer at night when you're done eating everything

I think to gain a pound you have to eat an excess of 3500 calories so if you weigh 120 pounds and want to be 140-150ish that's about an excess of 70,000 - 105,000 calories needed.. If you eat around 2000 calories a day and want to gain 2 pounds a week, you're going to need to up your caloric intake to 3,000 at least.

Some tips to feel less full (be able to eat more though not healthy by any means):

1. Eat more processed food. It's horrible for you but you feel less full.

2. Try to drink soda/ high calorie smoothies or drinks. Liquids go through you faster than solid food so you'll feel the need to consume more.

3. Cream of wheat: When I was attempting to gain weight a year or so ago, I consumed a LOT of cream of wheat products and mixed in sweeteners/ processed chocolate milk mix in an attempt to up my appetite. It worked wonders and within a few months time, I was able to reach my target weight range. I eventually weened off it since it's by no means healthy but as far as weight gain is concerned, this stuff helped do the job <3

Don't buy mass gainer. That's just throwing your money away.
You cannot magically turn fat into muscle, fat is fat, muscle is muscle.

@Gyroscope At your weight and height you are eating about 1,800 calories a day to maintain your weight. If you want to gain weight the only way is to eat at a caloric surplus. Eating about 2,300 calories a day would be enough for you to gain 1 lb a week. That's all you have to do, it's basic math, and in about 4-5 months time you'll be at 140 lbs. (And obviously if you increase your daily calories to more than 2,300 you will gain weight at a quicker rate)

I recommend using an app such as MyFitnessPal to track your daily calories, it's really easy. If you're not willing to eat more than you currently are then this is pointless, it's like wanting to learn how to swim but you won't step in the water. There are ways to get in a lot of calories quickly though (i.e. mass gainers). But you really should start getting use to eating more solid foods.

I'd also recommend you start lifting weights if you want to build muscle mass and not just excess fat.
Eat a lot of protein and carbs and keep working out. If you dont like shoving food down your throat keep eating carbs heavy meals and invest in protein powder to make shakes to drink pre/post workout or between meals!
Eat 3000+ calories a day, buy a mass gainer. If you're really serious I can go into detail, because I do have experience with your problem. I was 5'11 110lbs at one point (I had stomach surgery and lost a lot of weight) and I gained almost 40 pounds in a year. I went to a nutritionist and she helped a lot in my weight gaining.
5'7" and 120lbs isn't that bad tbh. I'm 5'10" and 135lbs (I fluctuate a bit though, I was under 130lbs at one point) and I'm perfectly healthy. I have somewhat decent muscle mass; I just have really low body fat. If it really matters that much to you though, I'd advise that you try to build muscle mass rather than get more fat on you. Muscle weighs more than fat so you'll still look skinnier, and you'll feel better about yourself. Plus, if you have a really fast metabolism, gaining muscle might actually be easier than gaining fat. Go on a diet that involves a lot of carbohydrates and protein, there are a ton of diets that you can find online like this one. Balance that with an exercise regimen that involves high weight at lower repetitions at a higher number of sets (again, you can use google and find a ton of exercise regimens like this), and you should definitely see yourself gaining some muscle mass.
