How to stay motivated?

Ah yes. The infamous "I'm going to change" routine where I keep it going strong for a week, and then return to my old lazy ass ways. How do I stay motivated?

it must be something you really want, not some hype and then 2 days later you are lazy as hell.
just tell your self that EVERYTHING is possible, if some other human being can do it, you can too
Can't say much for myself because I'm a total bum right now but my older brother changed his ways completely. He also used to be a bum like me, watching anime and playing video games all the time and just hanging out, not doing anything productive. One day though he decided he wanted to change. He started watching motivational videos everyday and even became a PuA (Pick up artist). He started going to the mall with some friends he made and started picking up girls and that was his big turning point. From there he found something he loved and pursued it. He stopped gaming and wasting time on things like anime and just coded all the time. He just kept going with it and now he's working as the lead android developer for a health care company. He's only 20 and doesn't even have his associates degree yet but he worked hard at what he loved to do and now he's more knowledgeable than his co-workers with PhDs.

I'm very happy for him because his life is pretty much set at an especially young age but his success gave me some really big shoes to fill, he's only a year and a half older than me. Now my parents keep asking me when I'm gonna transform like him or get a job like him and it gets kinda annoying. I really want to change my habits but it's pretty tough, my brother always tries helping me out too which I appreciate but I feel it's something I gotta do on my own.

Sorry for the little rant.
I'm kind of in the same boat... I would love to find a career with Video games or even creating them from scratch! but where I live, it feels like I wouldn't be able to find a career like that here. I feel like I have to live in LA or NY... I live in Denver, CO btw. Hell I would even love to work at a game store like Gamespot, but I got a felony any everyone acts like I am killer or something lol.

@drager260: Yeah, it was a bit confusing because there was no pretext of the 3 years of classes. Still, the story's quite interesting. (Who isn't tired at this time? Haha.)

@enoch129: He always had an interest in coding, he took 3 years of classes in Hs. What I meant was that doing pick up changed his perspective on things drastically and it made him want to do something more. He remembered he liked coding and went back to his roots and slowly but surely he started getting better at it. Pick up didn't make him an expert programmer it just made him a motivated person and when he started doing what he liked it all the pieces came together. I guess my wording was a bit confusing.

Edit: Reading what you said again, it isn't much different from what I just typed out lol. Sorry I'm just tired and thought your post said something else.

Interesting how your older brother found his love for coding from becoming an expert PuA, haha.
OT: Just find what you want and go for it. If anything, just go out and have a micro-adventure; find yourself.

I guess it has to be meaningful to you, and possible for you to achieve.

hey, if yur habit is to always go strong then return to yur lazy ways, maybe going strong takes too much effort.

ya, know, like sprinting, when you could be walking.

Maybe, just maybe, yur thinking of it as a chore, when instead of a chore, you can think of it as nothing. That's right, nothing.

You are not trying hard to change, you're just completing yur goal, slowly, calmly, surely, you become a different person.

you make small goals for yourself, which are obtainable. By doing this, you get a sense of accomplishment.
You should have an overall goal, but these small steps are just as important.
