Opinion on college
What's your opinion on people that don't go to college? Do you think college is a necessity? Do you look down on those who don't? I haven't been in college since 2012, probably one of the best decisions in my life. I think college is a good choice, but if you have nothing you're interested in, nothing wrong with leaving and finding a career without a college diploma. What's your honest opinion?

@toomuchdmg: What does college prepare you for in life except the career you want to work in?
@revenants: LOL my teacher showed me that too.
It seems like when you're in high school, they make it sound like college is your only option, when it really isn't for a lot of people. I would have gone to college if it was free or I had rich parents that paid for me, but that wasn't the case. Obviously I don't look down on people who didn't go to college. I feel sorry for people who go to college because that's what everybody else is doing, only to realize it isn't for them and they drop out and waste money. Don't go to college just 'cause that's what everybody thinks you should do. You do you.
edit: I regret taking a bunch of college prep classes in high school instead of technical classes that would actually be useful now.
After I graduated my dad said to me "You have no student fees". Meaning he's taking care of it. It sucks too because its only recently I realize the career I chose may not be right for me. I only went with it because I saw no other option at the time/didn't look hard enough for other career paths. I never took into account the type of work I'd be able to tolerate for extended periods of time. I just thought "oh I love doing this" but once I experienced it for a good while, in the end it wasn't what I thought. I'll feel like I wasted my parents money if that college experience doesn't help enough. Although I do cherish the memories and people I met.
@helpingly: My teacher showed my class that, and changed my whole perspective on universities, albeit I'll still go to one, just because I'll be able to afford it w/o defaulting and being broke for life. LOL
@OP I believe if you have an interest in mind, then you go for it, if college is what stands in the way of you getting a career with your interest, then attend college.
@alwaysthere not sure where you're going with that extreme outlier.
There's a really interesting documentary out there called The Ivory Tower. You guys should watch it.
@kiirori: DAE Bill Gates is a loser cause he never graduated
college isn't necessary. You can go to trade school and earn a good living.
However, I will say that in todays day and age, one should learn about computers/coding.
college is quite important imo, it's not too necessary but it could prepare you for yknow life and whatnot
left college after 3 years, best decision i ever made. im just not the college type. I prefer elementary school, cuz it got recess
I'd say do your research and make sure you stick with your plans if you're taking out loans. Work is work, college costs money. I know a chick who has a BA in political science, but works at subway. Turns out that's her first job.
I think there's more to people that "don't want to go to college". They could have certain reasons behind it like being unable to afford it, illness, etc. But if you are speaking strictly on people that literally DO NOT want to attend a post-secondary education, I think it's fine, but going definitely does give you a higher chance of working in a more "professional" line of work like medicine or business. NOT saying you can't be successful if you don't, though. I know many people who've dropped out and are banking it like crazy, so I think it all totally depends on a person's mindset. If they don't go because they've got a different plan in mind, heck go for it. Looking down on someone because they don't have a piece of paper to their name is annoying especially when applying for jobs, but there are some who make it even better than those that do go to college/university so. Good on them, honestly. They're doing something that is stigmatized that they wouldn't be able to do without a degree (be successful). It's just a thing with society now that if you do go to college you're automatically looked upon as successful just for graduating so it does make it harder on those who don't go but it's not a bad decision either, especially if it makes them happier.
@natalie: I was the same way, I had no idea what I wanted to do, and I dropped out my first semester of college lol. I started my career at 21 so that's pretty good, I'll be making good money and retiring young
i've been in and out of it and when you really have no idea what you like or want to do like me, you feel lost and like you're wasting time no matter what. but if i don't go at all then i'd feel even more of a useless bum
Pretty sure the chances of making a good living are higher if you go to college, and that's what matters to me.
But no I don't look down on people who don't go. Hey, if you can live a happy life without it, or if you are strategic enough to make a lot of money without college, then good for you.
It's just that for most people, I'm pretty sure college is more practical.
i dont think its a necessity, im only getting a degree because i wanted to work on something but i had no idea how to start? college served as guidance to start but nothing else, seems like a waste of time and money if u arent autodidact
wtv the path u take cant rly have a good outcome without dedication
some people do far better with their lives (time) when they drop out of college and actually pursue something that interests them.
i have no qualms with people who choose to do something else with their lives.
It depends on the reasons why they didn't want to go to college.
I only go to uni to tell ppl I went, my life is already set lmao
@robertswe: ayyyyyyyyyy
I was seeing someone who dropped out of school and though he was doing a lot he was not nearly as financially established for his age compared to other friends of mine that have their degrees..
Honestly in today college diploma is a small title for those that don't have them. But, I think people who don't go to college, I view them as the courageous ones or the ones who already know what they want to do.
Never look down at anyone, unless you know them personally.
Honestly depends on whatever you want to do in life. University/college does give you a different community to interact with as opposed to accustoming to adult life straight out of high school, though.
if you feel good about your life that's all it matters
i used to have a negative opinion on people who don't graduate university but not anymore. if you're able to start making money right after highschool, saving yourself 3-4 years of time and tuition fees, you're the real winner. so long as you're not flipping burgers or something.
just become a real u-tooba and streamer like me. its the easiest job in the world and i earn lots more than people with "real" jobs
It's free where i live, and we have no armyduty to waste our time with. There are not alot of arguments to support not going.
