I need help with typing

So, according to my parents, many people type with all (or most) of the fingers.

I type with only 2-3 fingers.

The problem with learning right now is
1. I now have a habit to type with only 2-3 fingers, so it's gonna be hard to break that
2. I don't really have 2-3 hours to sit down and practice typing. So I need a fast way to learn it.

Since I guess that's really inefficient, does anyone know a way that I can learn to type "the right way"? Online resources?
Because I don't know if I'm actually doing the right thing or the wrong thing. I mean, I've been typing this way since 5th grade.

i learned to type in 6th grade. we learned the homerow keys, basically asdf and jkl;. there are little bumps on f and j key so you know where your pointer fingers rest. i can type over 100wpm, which is just a minimum estimate. the only bad habit of mine is that when i press the shift key, I always use the right shift key only. this makes it annoying to type capital letters on the right side of the keyboard. also, i'm not very good at typing symbols since i don't use them very often, other than the apostrophe, period, comma, and question mark.

I learned from sitting on my ass in front of the computer for probably about 4 to 8 hours a day for the past five years or so. And an hour a day before that.
And even before that I was the fastest typer in school because I guess I'm just good at it.
I learned from this spongebob typing game, it taught me everything and now I can type relatively fast with very few mistakes. Granted I used the program when I was like 9 but I have improved off of it so much through the years (I'm 16 now)
I had that too actually. I guess it helped, although I never bothered with the home row. My WPM is still over 110 so who needs it anyway. Suck on that, office standards.

We had these typing challenge games in 5th grade or something and I remember the volunteer teacher would always come around and call us out if we were using 1 or 2 fingers. I don't type really formally (keeping my fingers on the asdf and jkl; ) but I have my hands hover around that area and I have the keyboard memorized so my fingers know where to go to type fast even if i don't use the "correct" finger to type in the actual key. but anyway like some people said, maple helped me type faster lol, my keyboard set up was pretty close to what you use to actually type (my main keys were zxcv which are right below the asdf) so my fingers got adjusted to always being at a certain position
I think typing is more about muscle memory so idk, it might not even be worth it to try and retrain yourself to type correctly

I had a course in middle school teaching me to type, but I never got fast there.
Because I used computers often, it just naturally occurred to me.
I even have the accuracy to type without looking at the keyboard all the time, BUT I have to look at keyboard when it comes to mapling due to healing with potions.
I always end up pressing the wrong key, which leads me to a certain death.

My school tried to teach me to type and well didn't work.
MapleStory helped me type fast.

This is the best thing I've ever read in a while keep it up because right now I'm talking without even thinking so don't take this comment seriously as I'm just trying to check how fast I can talk without talking I mean thinking I mean typing

the way I learned to type was with a kitchen towel over the keyboard (with my hands under it), at least that's how they taught us in school. Left hand rests on asdf and right hand on jkl; (you'll notice probably that f and j have a little bump on it, that's where your index fingers belong, means you can blindly find the starting position!

Cover the keyboard and try typing diff letter combinations until your brain memorized them - or just try to type real words right away (I had a software at home back then that would make me type stuff like fff jjj skl kcc and such repeatedly so my brain could memorize the locations of those keys)

I type with 9 fingers, since the thumbs are on the space bar and I only use the left thumb for the space bar (right hand has to be more flexible for delete/enter etc so it became a habit to just use my left thumb xD)

If you play games, you're gonna type wrong. Games that involve quick responses force you to compromise by using easily accessible fingers rather than the weak pinky. I type exactly how you type, but meh. Type faster than most people. People who actually do type "normally" type insanely fast. My friend's dad ran out of classes in college to take so he took up typing and he can keep probably write down everything a person is saying to him.

If you hit 50-60 wpm you're fine. No real need to learn the "right way" unless you have plans or plausibly foreseeable futures where you will have to do a lot of constant typing.

Online resources work. Try to work out patterns in your mind and your fingers will be able to learn those individual patterns for your fingers to type. The Maplestory (or any quick chat system) natural practice works too, kinda like quickly picking up a foreign language while living in another country.

Also, it shouldn't put too much strain on your fingers. If anything, it may put strain on your wrists if you have to maneuver those 2-3 fingers around the keyboard often. But I wouldn't know if that's actually true in the slightest, as typing regularly could also lead to those problems.
I only use two fingers + fat finger for space of each hand to type, And I think I can type pretty fast, Oh and I use my second to left finger to hit shift for caps,

Tell your parents to F off. Typing your way is correct.
I think the problem was that if I only use two fingers, it'll put lots of stress on only the fingers.
If you type with all fingers, the stress is "distributed" on all fingers, and it's not as bad.

@sidho: Does this mean I have to go play Maplestory again?

Here's what I did to learn typing "automatically" without really going out of my way to sit down and prActice. First off look up the starting hand position on google images(asdf space jkl. Just try to memorize that position. From there, just play maplestory. Try to go out of your way to get into situations where you
Have to chat and from there just try your hardest to type from this position using all your fingers. It will
Be awk as heck in the beginning but eventually, you will ask yourself "how am I doing this?"
