Current hunt: Amaura
Why do I hunt shinies? The feature in which you can display a shiny Pokemon as the default picture and there are so many nicely colored shinies out there. Also dat sparkle.

anyone wanna trade shiny pokemon
Went into the winding forest, the first area just running around to quickly get a level on one of my pokes and i ran into a shiny jigglypuff, was amazed since i wasn't even trying but kinda disappointed cause only it's eyes change colour
I wish I never found out about shiny pokemon.
Complete opposite for me.
Hunting for Shiny Pokemon is pretty much the only reason I play these games for as long as I do.
My first shiny was an ugly green ursaring. I should go and play X again. I stopped after my impatience with chaining.
in heartgold, i soft reset for almost an entire year to catch shiny rayquaza in a duskball
Shinies is probably the one thing I do cheat into anygame. I have way too little patience. Thanks to roms, emulators, and an r4i card, I've been able to switch settings to make only shinies appear in Fire Red and Heart Gold, and then transfer them over to the legit games, albeit the transferring process is kind of tedious.
I wish I never found out about shiny pokemon. Ever since, all I've cared about in each game is getting a shiny team. Making me quit halfway through because I get bored.
Does anyone have a shiny froakie(timid), mawile(adamant), flaffy(modest), and shuppet(adamant) for trade? I have a shiny venusaur, garchomp, roserade, and spiritomb
bumping threads ftw
i caught a shiny hariyama a while ago, was actually unintentional, just searching for some pokemon i didn't cath yet
January 2nd: Caught my first two Shinies of 2014.
Both were unfortunately Pokemon I already had in older games--*sigh*--although the first of the two will surely replace the one I have back in Pearl, while the second one was my first Shiny encountered in a horde battle (well, first if we don't include that Shiny Psyduck in my brother's X several weeks ago).
Still hoping to finally catch another Shiny of a "new" Pokemon (excluding new Pokemon caught through Chain Fishing). So far, all I still have is that Shiny Fletchling.
Right now I am trying to find a shiny Hawlucha and Eevee.
@Baroo: Dunno about crazy. I've been putting it off for a while thanks to my addiction to MiiVerse. Now I'm working on Tepig.
Edit2: Never mind!
Caught a shiny Luvdisc yesterday while hunting Heart Scales (I ended up unintentionally chain fishing). Not sure if anyone here is big on chain fishing, but it's an extremely easy, relatively quick, and pretty reliable way of catching shinies (albeit if you're looking for one to use competitively you're better off MMing). Caught shiny Clauncher, Clawitzer, and Poliwhirl in just a couple hours of chain fishing earlier this week.
Skimmed through the thread without seeing anyone bring it up, but according to Serebii, the shiny rate for X&Y was doubled, making it 1/4096. This isn't surprising considering how many shinies people have been finding. I'm not even a dedicated shiny hunter and I've already caught 7 in the last few weeks alone while having only found three or four total in the past several years.

That's some crazy luck, hatching a Shiny during the final moments of New Year's Eve. Congrats!
I once did something similar, catching a Shiny Pikachu during the final minutes of News Year's Eve several years ago in LeafGreen.

I soft-resetted for mine back in White. It was my easiest/quickest soft-resetting project ever in that game.

Nice! My friend let me have his for free. Purple shinies are so awesome!
Thanks to Bank being delayed I can't see my beautiful Virizion in 3D yet. :[
Still hunting for Murkrow and am about 5xx Eggs into the hunt.
Even if it did, it wouldn't work on stationary Pokemon like Rayquaza according to bulbapedia, which sucks. This applies to only 3rd gen.
True indeed. Pretty much every stationary soft-resettable Pokemon that I managed to get a Shiny of in Ruby has pretty hindering Natures. >_<
I still treasure them all, though, despite these glaring flaws.
Same here.
Still wish that Synchronizing had existed in Ruby/Sapphire so that mine could've been caught with a better Nature. =/
Two week till I can transfer my legit Shiny Rayquaza I caught ten years ago!
After a failed chaining experience I found a shiny spinda in random occurence... kinda bummed out
I found a shiny Axew in the Connecting Cave.
Considering my experiences with the Masuda Method last Gen, I'd personally rather continue messing around in the Friend Safari.
Still, if nothing showed up after a certain stretch of time, I'd eventually return to trying to hatch the Shiny for a while again.
MM is best if you're looking for something competitive and just want to show it off as a Shiny.
Friend Safari is mean. T_T You won't always get what you're looking for.
Would you guys recommend MM over friend safari? *sigh*
Been safari hunting for this shiny, no luck. Considering of MM. Would you guys recommend MM over friend safari? *sigh*
December 1st: Got another "early route" Shiny.
Would've been pleased if it wasn't something that I had already caught in Y, except this time with an even worst Nature than the previous one as well. =/
Oh, well... hoping things go better with my next random Shiny encounter.
Found a shiny Piloswine in Pokemon Black/White before, but that was just luck.
Tried chaining for a shiny Ralts (love the semi-black MegaGardevoir) but my chains would break because I get sleepy and forget to spray Repel.
Got a shiny Carvanha after fishing 5 shiny Goldeen and an Alomomola after another shiny Octillery.
Currently chaining for Furfrou with chains breaking at 1x to 2x every time. -Sob-
After that I'll either chain for a shiny Spritzee or attempt to MM for Amaura.
Found a shiny Pansear the other day in the Friend Safari... it's just living in my PC now.
I haven't found a Shiny yet.
Have no intention of hunting any shiny for this generation at this moment but
Shiny Stunfisk and Gloom both found randomly in Friend Safari
Was breeding for a good IV Gible and got a shiny. Now it is a sexy Shiny Garchomp with a purple look in mega form.
33 boxes of Goomy and nothing. Am considering putting it off to see if Recover is a possible Egg move from Milotic.
Edit: Yay!
Ugh I cannot believe I havent been able to find a shiny in this gen except for a shiny zubat...
Still trying to get this shiny riolu.
November 26th: My brother was on his way to Ambrette Town for the first time--he makes progress even slower than I do--when he runs into his first Zangoose and it turns out to be Shiny.
As much as I frequently bother him about always being prepared for such occurrences, he was, of course, ill-prepared to deal with it. With a team of weaklings, very few 'Balls of any sort, a False Swiper that was too low-leveled/weak to be of much help, and no one with a paralyzing or sleeping move, I found myself thinking that he likely wasn't going to catch his first Shiny encountered in X.
Thankfully, my pessimism was wrong and he managed to catch it in one of the few Great Balls he had on hand.
Turns out that it was a Docile Natured Female that came equipped with a Quick Claw. It seems a lot better than the one I once chained on a frustrating Sunday years ago back in Pearl (which was a Lax Male also caught in a Great Ball).
So, His first Shiny in X was a Zangoose, and mine was a Caterpie. He definitely bested me this time around.
Later that night, after he'd gone to bed--he hadn't touched the game since catching the Shiny Zangoose--I decided to play his X for a bit so I could catch myself a Swirlix.
I'd already caught and sent him a Spritzee several weeks ago, and he plays too rarely to rely on him to catch me X's exclusive Fairy type any time soon.
I bought some more 'Balls and took his character back to Route 7 with the same party that he had when he'd encountered the Shiny Zangoose, although I replaced his Caterpie with the Modest Ralts I'd sent him the same time I was trading over the Spritzee so she could act as a Synchronizer.
Swirlix seemed pretty scarce that night, and most of the ones I'd encounter weren't Modest (even with the help of the Modest Synchronizer). Was starting to get bored when I got into a horde battle with a bunch of Psyduck, and one of them was Shiny.
Two blue Shinies, a mere few hours a part! A strange coincidence since my first two Shinies in Y were also caught in the same day, although only minutes apart rather than hours.
Unlike the previous Shiny encounter, there was no fear of accidentally fainting it or failing to catch it.
Caught it in his lone Dive Ball and was pleased to see that it was Modest--the Synchronizer worked, despite faiiling with all of the Swirlix I was encountering earlier--Male with Cloud Nine Ability. Just like before, it seems better than the one I already owned back in one of my older games (a Timid Female in Ruby).
He's going to be so surprised the next time he plays. ^_^
Anyways, I finally managed to catch myself a Modest Female Swirlix and then caught a second one for him (no point in waiting for him to catch himself one), transferred it over to my waiting Y, sent his character back to Ambrette Town, and then turned off his game.
Wow... I can't believe my lack of luck. I've been searching half a week for my shiny Espurr with Masuda Method. I've hatched 1,000 eggs now, and 30 of my boxes are a hundred percent full of Espurrs. If anyone has one, I'm willing to trade my Japanese shiny Ditto for it, and it's in its level 90s from breeding so much. Seriously, I'm not sure how much longer I can hold my patience for this darn pink cat.
I'm about 2 weeks into my Goomy hunt with no results, haha. Goomy also take a lot longer to hatch than Espurr.

I was hunting for Silggoos for IVS, so i didn't have to deal with dittos. takes forever for them to make eggs.
-Friend safari- took like 8 catches...
I hatched over like 900 eggs by now of just random pokemon for my teams.
My first ever shiny. I remember that sad day. Playing ruby saving Prof. Brich from the poochyena. And it was a gold one too
Still hatching my Goomy. Refer to the top of this page before you say something about SV.
I will never give up my Eggs for SV, but I will hatch Eggs for a service.
Still trying to get a Goomy. After 15 boxes I decided to try and breed one with Acid Armor. Currently have a Japanese 4 IV female with Counter, Acid Armor, and Poison Tail and a 6 IV male.
My first Friend Safari shiny and it had to be this of all things.
unrelated to the quote, but (i'm sure you know it now, but gotta say it anyways) the shiny rate for regular encounters is now 1/4096, twice as much as before. it's been thought that friend safari increases the rate by some amount. if masuda still is 4 times as much, then considering that gen 6 reduced the SV's by half makes the chance VERY good, and that's if it has the pre-GEN5 rate
@Baroo My shiny count is on..51...Now I think... Had some fun days with basil being down... 3 bloody shiny Sneasel while trying to get a Lapras/Snorunt XD Grats on the Azurill, those things are cute xD
I got a shiny Wailord today... Heaps of fun in pokemon amie Total count of shinies is on 31 now @_@
Congrats on the Wailord and reaching 31. I got to around that number of Shinies during my final days back in White.
So far I have nowhere near that number in Y.
My first Friend Safari shiny and it had to be this of all things.
What's wring with it being ol' Red Gyarados?
I'll admit, I'd be a little miffed if it happened to me, though, but that's because I already have three of them waiting back in Pearl and I'm pretty tired of getting Shinies of things I already own (especially when they're not any better than what I already own).
November 18th: Was about to leave my 3DS so I could tend to one of my siblings when I heard the "Shiny chime" go off and did a u-turn back to see what I'd gotten.
Meh... it was a Shiny Azurill. =/
I already have a Shiny Azumarill back in Pearl. She was caught in Ruby on Route 117 (if I remember correctly), on a Sunday when I was preparing for a big change in my life.
I suppose I could do with a new Shiny Azumarill since this Azurill has Huge Power as her Ability while my current one is Modest with Thick Fat.
Anyways, caught her in a Nest Ball--first time I've caught anything in one of those 'Balls this Gen--and didn't bother naming it yet. With their well known gender issues, I'll hold off on naming her until she evolves.
So, that's now 4 Shinies caught in Y--excluding Chain Fishing Shinies--and only one of them is neither something I already own or from a previous Gen. >_<

I got a shiny Wailord today... Heaps of fun in pokemon amie Total count of shinies is on 31 now @_@
perfect (31/xx/31/31/31/31) shiny solosis with the wrong ability (thats what ability capsules are for) after about 484 eggs, another (31/xx/xx/31/31/31) with the right ability about 45 after that, however, both are males and im aiming for a female
also shiny mawile after about 250 eggs
@Deviched: I would but I'm now attached to the little thing. I maxed out her Sp Att Super Training. Thanks for the offer though!
