How are your marks since entering college/university?
A teacher once told me in High School "You're guaranteed to drop one letter grade in College/University in comparison to your high school average".
For example my friend had a
High school average of 82%
now his University average is 70%
Did this happen to you?

High school average: 1.2 GPA
College average: 4.0 GPA
Then I stopped going to class lol
got academic probation after 1st semester of post secondary
went to another institution after 2nd semester
doing pretty good so far l0l
Got outta high school with a 4.00 GPA. So far I think I'm still at 4.00.
College isn't so much about the classes. It's about knowing how to split your time.
I obtained +/- an average of 88% in grade 7th to 9th. Now (in grade 10th), everything is like 5 times tougher... And even though I studied more than before, I only got an average of 82% at my first turn.
lol let's not talk about grades for now...
Why does high school just seem to accept what your teacher said, about dropping a letter grade.
Why doesn't it actually help prepare you?
Stupid system.
A few As and like 1 C. Mostly Bs. (Just midterm marks.)
@aznseal: Really? Then what's the point of having one? o.o
For kids to feel good about themselves. All colleges unweight GPAs.
@Mantris: Weighted GPA doesn't mean anything

High school I graduated with a 3.72 GPA. College I graduated with a 3.92 GPA
@proseiden: You aren't familiar with office politics, are you
well liked people often work less and make better bonuses. As a natural born leader, I'll be a manager making six digits before I'm 30 if I can tolerate the same firm for about 6 years
until then, I'll just a code monkey.
My marks dropped 10% in my first year but they're slowly rising. Should be able to maintain 80s in my 3rd and 4th year.
Not like it really matters, I'm in CS (one of the most demanded job fields) and I'm not socially inept like everyone else in my program so finding a job won't be an issue regardless of my GPA.
That's because freshman/sophomore years are really easy. Especially if you're taking regular classes. I had like a 96 average last year while sleeping in my classes and not doing homework.
Thread asking to compare HS marks to College/Uni
Lets list HS marks without any experience in College/Uni
Strong
Pretty big drop when I got to real classes. Kinda expected it, never really compensated. Still haven't really cared, IDK.
I feel comfortable with the material, more than many of my peers often. I just don't do homework on a regular basis.
I dropped quite a lot actually. Barely had to do any work in highschool to get good marks. Now I do a lot of work for mediocre marks...
I have an amazing GPA and got into med school so no drop for me lol.
I had a 3.7 flat unweighted GPA exiting high school.
My cumulative GPA as of spring 2013 is a 3.73. I balance out all my major classes with easy GE so my GPA doesn't look like garbage. I also never enroll in classes with professors <3.5 rating on RateMyProfessor, or <4.0 for GE courses.
hs gpa (weighted): 3.97 (unweighted): 3.67 I think
current overall uni gpa: 3.449
uni gpa by quarter:
fall 2012: 3.0 | winter 2013: 3.765 | spring 2013: 3.532
haven't gotten my grades yet for fall quarter (exams are in two weeks). my grade tanked fall of last year because of math u_u (but I managed to pass it lol)
@Proverbs: Yea I agree. It helps that college classes are block scheduled as opposed to the high school class that you attend every day and receive almost 3x the amount of homework you would otherwise.
HS I think my GPA was 2.6
In college now it's a 3.3
I only took easy classes in HS and my college is not prestigious. I like my community college. I basically made straight A while there. I prefer classes with a small student faculty ratio.
@Flexography I bet it's Psychology 101
That never happened to me.
@Harlequinist pics or it didnt happen
@SoulBlade I agree grammar is taken seriously in English Essays but not to the point which it fails you o.o. Your teacher trolled you hard with the B+ thing
@Gyroscope:
-.- She failed two of my essays over grammar. She put a B+ on one of my papers and then she said I really failed it, but the B+ is what I would have gotten if it weren't for my grammar. She marked it with a B+ to "inspire" me to do better.
@soulblade how r u getting a b- in engrish lol
A- Philosophy
A- Microsoft Office tutorial
B+ People Power Politics
B- English 101
A+ World History
@Proverbs: still. even the average student wont necessarily for sure drop
wellll anyways im talkin from what ive seen from fellow classmates and such so thats why i disagree
gpa 3.4 atm
in high school i have like 88 average all ap/pre-ap
I was making straight As in my last two years of high school while taking mostly AP classes.
Now I'm at college and I'm struggling to make Bs
But, I'm doing better than the rest of the people I know. Most people I know are making Ds and Cs while I'm making As and Bs.
Gotta get that ridiculous GPA for med schools though, so I'm probably going to transfer.
nope not true. wheres the back up evidence to this theory
uni is sometimes even easier
depends on what you do/how much effort you put in etc etc
I think my teacher was talking in the perspective of the average student.
Obviously, if you're naturally smart or a hard worker who studies daily then this wouldn't affect you.
I dropped 10%
the first year of college is one of the hardest, but after that, most people learn what they can and cannot do.
I wouldn't worry too much about it.
my overall gpa dropped from hs.
I had a 92% average ending highschool.
Second year university (first year new program) and my first year I ended with a 62%.
Sad life man.
They told me to expect at least a 20% drop
They were right.
I now stand at a 65% average lol
Ouch. You're so close to academic probation.
High school was actually harder for me because I loaded up a bunch of APs and didnt do too well. High school standard was "if your grade is below A, you fail."
College standard is more like "as long as it's above B, you did good."
i had a 3.95 gpa in high school and now i have a 3.85 in college
They told me to expect at least a 20% drop
They were right.
I now stand at a 65% average lol
Pretty much A's and B's. I have a better grade in my English 201 class than I did in my AP English class in high school.
I heard grade 12 AP classes are harder than 1st year university classes.
In my last year of high school, I didn't do particularly well. The grading system is different, but it would be comparable to a C.
In my first year of University, my average grade for the first semester was a B. I have yet to receive my average grade for semester 2 (but for the most part, I've received B's consistently with 1 A and 1 C+.)
Pretty much A's and B's. I have a better grade in my English 201 class than I did in my AP English class in high school.
I graduated both with less than a point difference in my cummulative gpa.
Spill the beans, what was your overall graduating GPA for both institutions?
