[header=21]Introduction[/header]
The biggest Magician damage range thread is back! I'm transitioning back to a thread from my guide because of the extremely low traffic that guides get.

Now, a few of you might remember that this damage range thread used to have several hundred ranges. That time is long past. Tempest brings such a massive overhaul that I no longer see it as beneficial to include those old ranges here. I will release an archive of old ranges soon.

Read the rules before you post your range. I can't stress this enough. I try to keep the rules as lenient as possible; you'll see that I require very little compared to similar threads. If you don't provide what I require, I can't use your range.

[header=22]Rules and Format[/header]
I need the following information to use your range.

Not Required: Screenshot

Not Required: Skills used to buff range

Other then the lines that clearly say "Not Required," you must include all of these pieces of information. Otherwise, I will not be able to put your range onto the thread.

Special Rule for Evans: Dragon Fury can be included in your clean range.

@MapleSpirit - A lot of mages like to compare their clean ranges because it is more accurate that way. With buffed ranges, your buffed could be Medi, and another guy's buff could be MW30.

Wouldn't it make more sense to put a buff only, since all Mages have something that increases their range.

My guide is now ready.
I decided against using this thread for the archived ranges. Actually, I put the archived ranges into the guide. If people don't like it, I'll put that back into a scrap.

Everyone can make comments in the guide now, or both if you feel eager. But I'll lock this thread very soon.

Ok, I have tons of news this time around.

[*]This thread was turned into a guide. I'll be transitioning to the guide in the next week.
[*]Now, that leaves the question of what will happen to this thread? I plan to turn this thread into the archived damage range thread. I feel that the scraps thread, while useful, is too inconvenient.
[*]And finally, when I switch completely over to my new guide, a lot of changes will have taken place in the format. They're not all neccessarily good, but I am experimenting. I'll want feedback from everyone, to see what you like and don't like.

As for updating the ranges, I feel that it would be a bad use of time to add the ranges to this old thread. So, the new ranges will be updated next week when I switch to the guide.
@IImaplers: The 40 int helped you that much, eh? Just looking at the averages of ranges in the thread, I don't see nearly that high of a difference.

I'm definitely not going to just throw out any ranges. If anything, I'll make 3 seperate threads for Big Bang, Chaos, and Jump (and Jump2 when that comes...). But it saddens me for the thread to not be "ultimate" anymore. I see it as so much easier to have everything on one big thread, but that's obviously not what most people think.
I guess this ultimate thread should stay "ultimate". But how about linking the pre-chaos ranges to a downloadable file? That would keep historic records and save space at the same time imo
@Gridmonkey and @IImaplers - There really isn't much of a difference in ranges for Big Bang, Chaos, and Ascension. The biggest change is probably Evans in Chaos, but even that is not so noticeable, because most of our mage buffs didn't affect our range.
So... how about keeping the old ranges, but not seperating them by Maplestory Version anymore? It would give everybody a larger amount of ranges to look at, and it would considerably shrink the size and complication of the thread.

And sorry about the slow updating. AP Calculus doesn't study for itself.
I think there's a significant difference between Big Bang ranges and Chaos/Ascension. So I would just keep the Chaos and Ascension ones since they are the most recent. My range actually went up by about 4k after Ascension hit.
Cluttered in what way? Do you mean take out the pre-ascension ranges, or stop taking new ones?
Exactly what Gridmonkey suggested. This thread at this point is a great bank of historic statistics, but most would only care about and compare post-ascension ranges. So yeah I think removing the pre-ascension ranges and scraping the rest of the data would work. Let me also add that the amount of work you've put into this thread is impressive.

Reply October 20, 2011 - edited
Gridmonkey

Probably remove them entirely or continue to update them in another location/thread, since the majority of viewers on Basilmarket at least (while there are players from other versions) probably only want to view this thread for the post-Ascension ranges now (of which there are none yet, it's best to update them up to where you are up to so far so people know the thread gets updated at all).
I think it's a bit cluttered here. IMO it would probably be best to put only ranges that are post-ascension or else it'll keep being cluttered. Just a suggestion
Wasn't aware that a fat post count remotely implied a quality thread deserving of guide status, would think it was the content alone that determined that. Basilmarket priorities -1.

I just submitted a ticket to turn this thread into a guide. Hoping it gets accepted.
Do you all think I should put the ranges into tables? It will make the guide more organized, but will also make it longer.

And I know it looks like I've done nothing for the past couple of weeks, but that's not the case. I've compiled over 150 more ranges, I just need to add them to the thread. Be patient, you guys don't realize how many hours I've spent on this thread.

Edit: I got a response in only 10 minutes from mrbot, saying that my ticket was not looked at because mr.b is very busy. Well... at least it was a quick response?

The length thing has been brought up many times. I'm pretty sure that the mods prefer one large thread over several small ones. But I'll ask.

The problem with this thread: WAY TOO LONG. Should've made a separate one for each class. Evans, BaM's, and adv mages don't really compare well.
I also think the TS gave up.

That said this is still the best thread we have so I'm reposting with my new range.

Hm... I'm fairly sure that arcane aim doesn't add to your range, just to your skill damage. Like elemental amplification.
What's happening to magician ranges post-Ascension btw? The way you wrote that implies they're all going to change, is that just a reference to High Wisdom or have I missed something?
Mainly, I'm just changing the format that you can submit ranges. But yeah, everyone's ranges should go up a little due to high wisdom.
