Didn't really like any of the two, watched out of boredom and ended up even more bored. I was never really fond of animes, was just trying to get that feeling of when I was kid and discovered Dragonball, Pokemon, Medabot and other animes of my childhood. Out of the two I'd say Fairy Tail is the best. I didn't finish any of the 2 animes but that's my opinion anyways.
Fairy tail might not be a top notch anime, however when watching it I get this happy feeling of friendship and family. I'm usually not at all fond of animes that run a long time like Bleach, Naruto and One Piece (Even though I can enjoy One piece somewhat). However Fairy Tail just makes me happy watching it. It doesn't put its focus on on character specifically and I like that. All characters are important, while sometimes they don't even appear that much. It makes it less repetitive (There is still repetitiveness of course).
SAO started out really good, and I feel as if anyone who adores SAO is clinging on to those first 8 episodes before it got bad and bases their arguments on those episodes. Overal SAO has beautiful animation and battle scenes, but the plot weakens so bad due to the romance that it becomes a fairly mediocre anime. Romance took over the plot, while first it was about getting out of the game. I only bothered watching the final two episodes after giving up halfway. I am greatly disappointed with SAO.
I'd say SAO wins the battle of which is worse. Mainly because they messed up something great.
They're both really meh as you never have to worry about the the main character(s) because they always use some super godmode hax to beat all their enemies and never lose. In general, Fairy Tail makes me laugh (occasionally) but I find SAO more interesting. That being said, I'd say Fairy Tail.
They're both terrible, but going to go with Fairy Tail. The authors previous manga was MUCH superior to Fairy Tail as in good people died, and weren't saved by "FRIENDSHIP POWER" kind of thing. It was a lot more realistic in that factor, plus I prefer the characters.

SAO is great. Never got to watching FairyTail, so can't judge on that.
Fairytail, SAO isnt that bad though.

Fairy tail has better plot.
But they're both equally terrible.
Haters going to hate. Haters that can't even make a better story than both I bet at that.

Agreed, although those 10-11 episodes got me hooked.

I haven't watched Fairy Tail, just SAO was flat out awful.
SAO, it should've ended after the SAO arc...

Fairy Tail. Though SAO is very close in terms of being godawful.
Haven't watched Fairy Tail, so I can't compare.
