SmartPhone advice?

Hi Basil,

Seeing that my early decision for college came back with a letter of admission ,
my parents are finally allowing me to buy a smartphone. So far my friends have suggested the Iphone 5S, Galaxy S4 and LG G2. Its in Verizon btw, so no nexus 5 sadly. So far im leaning toward a G2 unless someone persuades me other wise. Any suggestions, tips, cautions, etc?

PS: this is my first smart phone.

@bubblecup118: But every single flagship smartphone in the market right now has at least a 4.5 inch display, which IS this average-sized phone now. If I held a 720x1280, 4.5in phone and a 1080x1920, 4.5in side-by-side, anyone with a decent pair of eyes would be able to differentiate the better screen. Double the resolution is a huge difference, even on small displays. And the current top 10 phones this year that have 1080p displays also have relatively close and high ppi counts (430-460ppi), so your second assumption doesn't matter. Are you sure you're not getting resolution and ppi mixed up?

Have you ever used a 1080p phone for more than 5 minutes? My iPhone5's display can't even hold half a candle to my HTC One or Nexus 5 (regardless of saturation, contrast, and other color reproduction factors), and my eyes aren't even that great to begin with.
This is what I thought at first, but the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 4.5+ inch phone display is clear as day. It's such a significant difference that there is absolutely no way my next smartphone will be below 1080x1920. I seriously don't care about the extra battery drain; it's well worth the gorgeous display.

OT: The G2 has monster specs, but I personally dislike the build quality; the fingerprint magnet, cheap plastic back is a real killer. The iPhone5S is a great phone in terms of build quality and performance, but you miss out on great Android apps and features (though the App Store is much less fragmented than the GPlay Store). The S4 is a great phone as well as long as you plan to not use the default Touchwiz skin, but the Note 3 is a better choice in terms of future-proof-ness and build quality.
It depends on your screen size. But for an average size phone anything beyond 1080p , you won't be able to tell a difference.

It depends on your PPI

Personally, iphone is better than android. Idk how to explain it, but it feels better.

I think you should ask yourself; what do you want from a phone?
Music?
Games?
Customization?
Simplicity?
Camera?
Videos?
Etc?

This is because the type of phone depends on the person.

Bandwagon hate combined with the fact that all the popular kids at school blindly buy into iPhones and Macbooks because it's the hip thing to have.

Apple products are actually quite nice, and I'd consider buying a rMBP if it wasn't so expensive.
Having such a high resolution on a phone is a gimmick and completely useless. After a certain amount of PPI. any extra pixels are pretty useless as the different is so low.

Also more pixel means more power and battery juice needed to run it.

What next? 4k on a phone. It's just a gimmick.
G2 has to be the best choice of the three. As the G2 is like a better alternative to the Nexus 5...oh man it's a beautiful phone. Not minding the Interface, I think you'll like the phone a lot more especially the display and camera you'll get from it.

LG G2 has the best processor and pretty nifty features.
Just sayin.

Perhaps the Nexus 5 has a better processor since it's also technically made by LG?

iPhone if you want simplicity and streamlined process. iPhone is a good camera so I hear. My Nexus 5 (is like the LG2?) has cool customization but not impressed by the build quality, sound or camera capability but it is unlocked

If you want a phone that works great out of the box without customization and have a great user experience then get the iPhone 5s.
If you want a phone with a huge screen, lots of customization, and don't mind the fragmentation of android then get a galaxy s4, HTC one or w/e
