Suicide attempt in my school district

Tragedy struck today. It was a normal morning, so I didn't expect this at all.

Today during school we had a lock down. It started at 11:00 and ended at 1:00. Every school in our district had the lock down so we didn't know what was going on at the time.
An 8th grader in one of the 3 middle schools pulled out a gun during lunch and shot himself in the face in front of 70 other students. The only thing we know is that he had been depressed for the past week. He was air-lifted to the closest hospital because he was still alive. I don't know if he's still alive now.

I'm a highschooler, and this still strikes me. Such an eye opener.
If he doesn't make it, then R.I.P friend.

EDIT:Facebook friends claim that he is still alive. Amazing.
Here's the link to WMUR, fix it if you must.

Ok well, after discussing it with another mod, this thread too needs to be locked. Just too much insensitivity and complaints. Sorry guys. Most of the community isn't really mature enough to handle sensitive topics.

If you are wondering why we can't have nice things? You now know.

must've been dead depressed
I wonder what it must have been like for the students eating lunch. Or even the students who sat next to him!
Facebook is blowing up with statuses about the event and some people were there when it happened. Scary.

@liam We live in a rural area in NH. Many parents are dumb rednecks who've probably let their kids play with guns since they were little. We haven't had a situation like this before though.

The thing with depression is that it changes how you think. Rational and irrational thinking become blurred. I'm very sorry for your loss. I lost my best friend when I was 16 to suicide and it was one of the worst events to happen in my life.

Yeah, a girl committed suicide toward the end of my senior year last year, but it was at her own home. I won't go into detail

But I'll be honest, I was kind of annoyed at how much respect she was getting for killing herself. Maybe I'm insensitive, but I felt like I was one of the only people that didn't pity her or feel bad for her. Apparently she had some family/relationship problems (not sure which) that not many people knew about, but to give up your life for something that won't last forever seems just... stupid.
I bet most people wouldn't be able to care since they won't be able to relate with it so easily.

But really, how does a suicide in a middle school warrant high schools to go into lockdown? o_O
We had this lockdown to prevent students from causing a commotion. We weren't supposed to know. I was in the middle of Math class when it happened. One kid got a text from his mom because his brother goes to the middle school and she said that there was a school shooting. That's when everyone started pulling out their phones to see what went down.

It would be extremely sad if they saved that person instead of letting him die and then take pictures for the news

Holy crap, in the face? And in front of so many people? I get that he's depressed and all but he seriously didn't have to take out a gun with 70 other students around. That alone is a scary experience especially if you were a middle schooler (or at least I would think).

Here's a link from WMUR. They aren't sharing much since it just happened a couple of hours ago.
