Grade 10 Literacy Test

So the Literacy Test is on Thursday and i'm scared. Is it hard? I personally lost all my English notes/papers because I didn't care for it since we were starting a new semester. Then as soon as I heard about the Literacy Test I was like ''damn, should have kept the English notes!@#!@#!,'' so do you know what I have to know and what I should focus on? It would really help, thanks.

I hear it was the exact same test as last year.

The essay question was about should teenagers worry about what they wear
and the news report was about some famous chef.

My stupid brother had to re-write it this year.

Gonna laugh so hard if he failed it again.

Yeah I finished it but I actually don't know if I passed or not. All I can do is close my eyes and hope for the best. Hope all the grade 10 basilers that went on this thread passed.

It was really easy.

I have to do it next year, and in one of my classes we did Literacy Test prep.

Needless to say, it was easy Although it was only practice so I won't know if the real thing is as easy as the practice test was...

Maybe they should set the standards higher...

I remember sleeping during the test and waking up half way. The sad part is, me along with the rest of my high school got near perfect marks if not already perfect.

I just had the test, and it was safe to say it was extremely easy.

Yes it may be easy but it is still important. I need someone to answer the question above.

Well I'm kind of scared of the the series of paragraphs you have to do. Should I have one introduction as a paragraph, one body paragraph with two proofs/reasons proving my opinion and a conclusion paragraph?

Or is it something else..... that's why i'm kind of scared. I can do the news report but i'm not sure about this. Is it introduction paragraph, body paragraph with two reasons proving my opinion, and conclusion paragraph?
The key is to read the questions carefully and think before you answer. For the essay question, make sure you choose the option which gives the most to talk and argue about. For example, when i did the test, they asked me do i think it was important for kids to have a cell phone. Now i dont know about how someone else would answer this, but choosing no in my opinion would be the one that is the easiest to elaborate on as oppose to choosing yes.
Aha yess! I remember that essay topic 2 years ago! I agree. Go with what you can think of the most points for. In my case, because I don't have a cellphone myself, I went the no route because I could back it up much easier. Other than that, if you feel strongly for one side yet can't think of as much points as the other side, go with the other side even if you're not entirely for it. The more points, the better.

I failed the lit test because I didn't write the newspaper article or the essay when I took it that year. I'm actually taking it this year around.
Time is the biggest issue for me, but I've learnt that you shouldn't even bother with constructing an A+ essay. All they care about is your structure, grammar and spelling. Even if you can't think of 3 points per paragraph and it really holds you back on time thinking of that 3rd point, just go ahead and stick with 2 points at least. An incomplete essay and you just potentially lost a reasonable score for the section. Good luck!

Incorrect.

You need 300 or higher, which is above 75%

@williamme: I wrote the same one... 2 years ago, right?

@uglierbetty: testing

Two years ago it was so easy.

There was this story about these girls, and they went to a store, and the guy was like, "PUT YO' BAG ON THE GROUND" And they were like, "But it'll get wettttttt " and the clerk was like, "FINE, PUT IT BACK HERE BEHIND THE COUNTER" And the girls were like, "okay"

And it said what is a good name for the story:
a)Winter Slush
b)The evil store clerk
c)Coming to a compromise
Anyone remember that story? It was a couple years ago...

hmm... I WONDER what one it is. Don't worry. It's almost impossible to fail unless you miss the directions. (I.e. if they say write 2 pages, fill them. DO NOT GO OVER and do not only fill out like half)... I can't remember, but I am pretty sure I got 380+/400, and I'm not particularly excellent at English.

And have fun laughing at the ridiculous names they give the characters in their stories to be racially inclusive.

Good luck, sir. It isn't difficult, nor do you need to review your notes. Know how to write pieces of writings that you've learned from Grade 9-10. There'll be an essay for sure, several multiple choice questions based on stories and whatnot. I did it in Brampton, Ontario, two years ago. 345/400 isn't bad. And understand that people do not pass all the time, it's possible to fail it if you're illiterate in Grade 9-10 English.

I took the test before and got like 330 out of 400. I think you need atleast 300 to pass or else you fail and must take it again next year

Outline of the test
~~~~~~~~~~~~
They give you a story and then multiple questions after
Short answers about the story
News report where you write like 1 page
Make sure you can do that kind of stuff.
Don't worry about it man. I did it. Easy-Peasy Lemon Squeezy.
You only need to worry if you don't speak english. Just plan out a little what you are going to say before you start writing or it will be a mess.
And in my school, all grade 10's have english 2nd semester to make sure they can practise their skills during class.
I took it last year. The test was beyond easy. Just watch out for the newspaper; try making it believable and put quotes in there. It's worth the most I believe. Also, read the questions carefully, they can sometimes throw you off so answer the question exactly how they ask.
Oh and, HAHAHA I get to stay home tomorrow. Ahahahha omg wow. Jokes, but be careful and don't stress, it's extremely simple. My friend who can speak English decently but is terrible when it comes to writing got around 320/400. No need to worry. ^^
You wrote that paragraph like a normal human being, as opposed to using "l33t speak". You'll do perfectly fine. My High School had like a 98% pass rate on the Literacy Test, the other 2% was mainly due to people not bothering to come to school or getting sick etc.
ENG classes have barely anything to do with the OSSLT.
I would probably relate it more to an ESL exam, if anything.
Easy stuff. Just remember to answer everything, and don't be stingy on the punctuation.
You have to be extremely stupid to not pass it; I'm horrible at English (I get low Cs to high Cs) but when I took this back in high school, I passed with no problem at all on my first try. =] Good luck!
I passed all of the proficiency tests on the first try. The standards are set so low that the only people that shouldn't be able to pass them are illegal immigrants and that kid that is so high he is passed out for every single class.
