You heard this, you heard that. Marijuana or not, we're all good people here.
I'm fairly certain it's a big deal because it can be EXTREMELY addicting and causes plentiful health problems, although the odds of banning recreational drugs actually stopping people from using them is so insignificant it doesn't even matter.
You can't put pot and addicting in the same sentence dude.
This thread is ridiculous. Are people seriously trying to insinuate that addiction is an issue with self-control and not a biological thing?
Since marijuana is not addictive drug to begin with (less so then coffee, alcohol etc), self control plays a far more important role than biological addiction in the current context.

Reading this thread is like reading a propaganda pamphlet. "Four legs good, two legs better!"

try everything once except for heroine

EDIT: lots of people have the misconception that once you do some type of drug once, you get hooked for life. anyone with an ounce of self-control can handle doing drugs. if you're responsible and not a total dumbass, you can't and won't get hooked (unless you have a known addiction problem lol)

1. Gateway drug? So everyone that uses marijuana will use harder stuff? So tell me what is inside marijuana that makes you want to use stuff like cocaine, heroine, meth, etc. I'm dying to know. If you want to try those drugs, that's up to your decision you make individually, not because marijuana magically influences you to do cocaine, heroine or meth.

2. Subjective. Some might argue cigarettes have a terrible scent too. Why isn't that illegal?

3. You're more likely to get addicted to caffeine than marijuana.

Drugs have a bad rap, even if it is MJ. I dunno, I don't do it, I'm not into the issue but I do suspect some conservatism or shaming.

1. Anything is a gateway anything, very weak argument
2. What does scent have to do with anything? There are foods that smell disgusting does that mean we should criminalize bad-smelling foods?
3. Name the addictive substances in marijuana for me

@taimega2007 The memory effects marijuana has are all short-term, I would like to see a peer-reviewed study showing marijuana causes long-term memory damage.

If you are somehow implying that marijuana makes you dumb then you are exceedingly uneducated on the topic.

@yorkies88888 Coke isn't as bad as people think, but meth is horrible.

@somebox What are the addictive properties in marijuana and what are these "plentiful health problems" you speak of?

1. Marijuana doesn't make you start craving harder drugs. I've been smoking regularly for over 2 years and I'm pretty sure I'm not craving meth or heroine.
Nor does it necessarily make you be exposed to other drugs. I can say it may possibly make you curious about other substances though. Once you smoke you realize it isn't that bad and you may begin to wonder if they were lying about other things. But it definitely doesn't make you CRAVE a stronger high.

2. Weed can actually smell fantastic if you are getting some good stuff. The stuff I'm smoking on now smells like sweet pine.

3. It isn't addicting. You don't get real withdrawals like you do with other drugs.
Hell, people generally get crankier when they don't have their coffee than if they don't smoke some weed.

the whole point of addiction (to anything) is that you don't have self control.

How do you know if someone smokes marijuana on the internet?
Don't worry, they'll make it known.
I know people that smoked weed for years, swearing that they would never do hard drugs, until they did a line of coke and realized there is substances that give an even better high than weed they get hooked off one hit. I've never heard anyone say "oh I did heroine once, didn't like it so i quit." The drug makes you feel great for maybe 10 15 20 minutes, then when you come off you feel like complete crap-thus- Moar Drugz Moar high Moar feelings good Less feeling like a loser.
Lawl I actually know 2 people who did exactly that.
The things with drugs is that everyone reacts differently to them. Why do you think in pharmaceuticals there are 10 different drugs that do the same thing?
Everyone reacts differently. There is no end all be all to how you will end up after using certain drugs.

I personally don't see how weed is ANY different than alcohol. They are both mild mind altering substances with negligible side effects given moderation.
If we could regulate it in a similar way that we do alcohol, I don't see why we all can't have a good time.

Also, people don't actually lace weed... It's not cost efficient.
IF WE WERE LEGALIZE IT THOUGH, WE COULD AVOID THAT HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION ALL TOGETHER.

People were allowed to smoke anything in my high school. No one got in trouble nor cares. Kids who aren't legal and they can easily get it from neighborhood dealers. It's probably even worse in Northern states with urban cities

@yorkies88888: Here. Lemme go find you a link of how it works on the microscopic level..maybe it'll help you understand.

Here, check this out. Our teacher showed this to us when I took AP Psychology. Unless you're one of those drug users who'll shun any sort of link after looking at it for 1 minute or say that "because someone from school showed it to us, it's probably false," you'll see that this is really educational and helps you understand what goes on under the surface.
Self control? I don't think you realize how drugs work if you think you can simply stop a drug addiction or intake through "self control."
Your body only gets addicted if you do it continuously for long a duration of time... If you do it like once every few months and actually have some willpower, nothing is going to happen to you... The "horror stories" are just the extremes when people are stupid and don't think; they ABUSE it...
