Why are most songs about love?
Why can't there be songs about life like depression, reality of life, war, and poverty?
SO sick and tired of it.
Oh baby i will always be with you and love you oooh yeah
Oh i miss you dear. ill be there

I thought it mainly about butts and sex
Love isnt real
Anything too stupid to be spoken is sung, and love is stupid.
This is why I listen to Japanese music ( because I can't understand it), Green Day, and any form of Jazz.
Also I agree. I understand that it's easily relatable, but damn it if isn't just boring and clich(e) at this point. It has gotten to a low point in a mainstream western musical endeavors where everything lacks musical and lyrical depth in favor of overdone concepts and recycled chord progressions.
The Decemberists have a song about a guy who kills his kids and doesn't feel bad about it afterwards. The Rake's Song
do you mean the most popular songs are love songs cauze there wayyy more songs that are underrated
I think rappers includes these in their lyrics, the most. But other genres also sing about these just gotta look for em. For rock I think they just incorporate it in words to symbolize it. For pop I don't know, I think they just try to sound happy so that they can get away from reality..

Would this be love or poverty? Or both?

Well, there are plenty of songs about what you've mentioned, just certainly not in the Pop/Rock scene.
Anyway, the reason that there are so many songs that cater to romance and heartbreak is that it is very easy to relate to it. Most people inevitably develop affection towards other people and fall out of love, which makes it very easy to relate to the lyrics. If the lyrics appeal to the pathos of the listener, they are more likely to like the song.
Rinse, repeat, slap a label on it and go to town.
Wat is love
there's plenty of songs based on the things you listed

edit: there are actually lots of songs about those things, you're looking in the wrong places probably
There's a reason I prefer non-lyrical music.
because people don't want to face reality
Most like because it appeals to a large majority of the audience. If the audience did not like it, then they would not produce more. Besides that, it is probably a lot easier to find the lyrics for love songs as opposed to poverty songs or other kinds of songs.
There are?
