As for me OP, I liked the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and at least (only saw part of) a little bit of Sinnoh.
Personally, I think a lot of the movies are worth watching (generally the earlier ones, but some newer ones too). The production quality is generally pretty good and it's not like it's going to dent your schedule. It's just a movie!

Diamond and Pearl was actually really good IMO, Chimchar's story was inspiring and Paul was interesting to say the least.

Gonna echo the sentiment of a lot of people here, saying that I really enjoyed kanto and johto. When I was a kid, the lugia movie was probably my favorite. Not sure how things turned after that. Is Ash still the main character?

Uhhh you start at the beginning then stop watching it when Ash's voice becomes really gay.

I stopped watching pokemon after the first season and even then, if it wasn't a gym battle or something interesting I didn't have patience to watch some lame filler. They did some orange island or whatever it was called spinoff but I only watched maybe a few episodes randomly of that..

I tried to watch two its new seasons awhile back. Too awful for me.

I stopped watching the anime till halve way around Hoenn, and a little bit of the Battle Frontier. I did recently see what they have going on nowadays, annnnd it's nothing particularly special. The quality could be considered on par or worse than the early seasons really, but I wasn't a kid who watched a lot of television back then.

First season is great, lot of personality. Partway through the Hoenn chapter the series turns to junk.
I watched the B/W anime, and my god it's so soulless. I miss the great humour of the first couple seasons.

I wonder how many of y'all have watched beyond the specific seasons you are mentioning. Of course the Pokemon Anime isn't going to be glorious or amazing. It never really was. But if you're into Pokemon in general then it's totes worth a watch.

The movies have been terribly lacking over the past few years. After the Kyurem movie it went down hill massively. The upcoming movie seems nice though. As for seasons, they're either hit or miss. Some seasons are boring, some are exciting. Give it a shot with an open mind. If you're a generation snob then don't bother.

XY S1 is a bit.. boring. Though the mega evolution episodes (not specials) are interesting. The specials by the way are good. The second season of XY is actually really nice now that the female protagonist isn't thrown around as a useless piece of ass.

Eh you should take these responses with a grain of salt, most people havent seen anything past the 3rd season (in which case I presume they were still young/kids as well)

Apparently the new Pokemon season is pretty good, although I have yet to watch it. I guess it can be entertaining but remember you're entering a childrens show so it wont be totally free of cliches. There's some new romance with the new heroine and some twists I hear

This. As for the TV show, I only found it interesting upto the Johto seasons. Once Hoenn began I stopped watching it.

Pokemon is complete crap after johto arc. You can watch up to the orange league or w.e that one island wasnt bad. The best arc is the first with it progressively getting worse. Its not worth watching anything more than a movie or 2.

Pokemon goes downhill when it gets into the 4th gen stuff and even then the first few seasons arent even that good to begin with.

The last pokemon movie I enjoyed was the one with Latias and Latios. Loved the Venice theme. The rest weren't interesting.
