who would you rather be in university?
the person with a 4.0 GPA but rarely goes out to have fun cause he's trying to get into a top graduate program at an elite school
or
the person with a 3.4 GPA but is having the time of his/her life and just hoping they will get into any graduate program
presuming both people have friends, network, extra-curriculars and all that other good stuff
also presuming, to get this person's dream job, they must finish grad school

@MarshMallows: which part is quality > quantity?
under those assumptions, the 4.0
depends on the major, still 4.0 is better than 3.4 if all things remain the same.
i was the 3.4 one with little intention of continuing on with grad school
3.4 because in reality, your career deals with who you know and where you stand vs how well you did in school. Rich people buy 4.0 gpas anyways so it honestly means nothing.
How about me, with a 2.9 GPA, barely any social life outside of school, no girlfriend, and a job I don't really like which I don't make much money from?
At least I get about 10 "friend time" hours a week...
You sound just like me
Quality > Quantity amirite
The 4.0 since I still have all that other stuff still.

Frankly, the 4.0.
Par with your description of the individual; he's far more likely to put the education to better use than his counterpart.
I'd pick the 4.0. If only it was that easy xD
tough choice cause both options are good. however, considering the fact that i ruined my gpa, i would choose the 4.0.
Sign me up for the 3.4 -- college is the last time for fun before the real world.
Depends where you plan on going after. If I'm gonna be working in a job that requires me to be really social then I'll make friends as I go. If I'm going to be some computer programmer who doesnt see anything but the walls of a cubicle then ofc im gonna go out and make friends before my social life is over
well, considering that I'm currently a student who doesn't have a 4.0 and rarely goes out to have fun anyways, I would choose the 4.0
Hell, I even don't have networking or extra curriculars. Sign me up right away plz.
4.0 dude grades are harder to get than friends
If I had to pick one, it'd be the first one. I can't do what I want to do with my life if I'm the second one.
depending on the university and major, 3.4 isn't that bad undergrad...
obvi 4.0 student... the 3.4 might have more fun during university but once they graduate...and get a real job and still have at least 40 years to live, it pays off to do well in uni/college.
4.0, you can still go out once in a while. Getting to go out doesn't always equate to fun either.
4.0 b da nerd
why not the guy with a 3.7 who's enjoying his college life in moderate amounts?
but if i had to choose from the two scenarios given, id take the 4.0 easily. i've already had most of my college fun my freshman year and god no ragrets and it was a sht show to say the least
Depends on your major IMO. Personally, you would ideally want to be the 4.0 person cause you can always have fun later in life. But from what I've experienced in college, it's not all about the grades. It's more important to develop a good work ethic and be able to pursue for the absolute best you can be. Whether it'd be making the deans list or getting A's, it's more about knowing your own self discovery. People won't really care about how smart you are, the major point is that you are disciplined enough to work for your passions and to do it well. That's what gets you ahead in life and to achieve better outcomes for your future.
A bit of a tough one here. Depending on your field a 3.4 could probably get you into some elite programs like the M7 schools. But if you are in a field where a 3.4 doesn't cut it, you'd obviously take the 4.0.
Personally I'd take the 3.4
the 4.0 person because anyone can be the fun "i don't care about grades" type of person but its much harder to actually get a good average
