Why would microwaving food increase cancer risk?
I hope people aren't linking retarded connotations with the word "microwave", lmfao.
I agree with everything you just said. But, I thought microwaving too much was also bad for you. I just heard of this, but am not entirely sure. If you know anything about this? Care to bring it up? Thanks.
I see nothing wrong with microwave-ing Cup Noodles, as long as the packaging clearly states "Microwave safe" or that the instructions tell you to put it in the microwave. But to be on the safe side, it'll probably be better to transfer everything into a bowl and then heat it up in the microwave.
Although there could be food chemistry issues, like someone mentioned a few posts above. It is generally recommended to give noodles a boiling water start, rather than a cold water start, as it will affect it's taste and texture.
If you want to know about microwave-ing as a cooking method, it is perfectly fine as long as it's done correctly. Such as being done in microwave safe containers, and making sure components of your food won't interact with your container. People argue that microwave-ing foods may increase risk of cancer. But same can be said about pan frying and grilling, where charred bits can possibly increase risk of cancer.
I wouldn't recommend microwave-ing as your only cooking process though. Other methods such as grilling, baking, steaming I find gives a much better flavour and texture. I generally just microwave some of my vegies, and then put them in a stir-fry or in the oven.
Another plus for microwave's is that it heats food up quickly. So when re-heating foods, microwave is able to bring it to a high enough temperature quickly, to reduce risk of food poisoning. And the microwave is also one of the safer and more recommended ways of de-frosting foods.
because its obviously faster and easier. although i heard your not supposed that styrofoam thing lol
Because it says it in the package. "Introduce into the microwave, and set it for 3 minutes" or something among the lines.
It's because they don't know crap about noodles.
If you drown noodles in cold water THEN heat it up... it ruins it.
You need to let boiling water hit the skin of the noodles first. :s
You really should be congratulated in eating healthier food choices. Especially in this day and age.
So many people I've seen, both kids and adults, eat absolute crap for their food. And most of them everyday.
And I've seen the consequences of these eating habits in my patients, when they've reached the 65+ age group. Diabetes, heart disease, cancer etc. Very commonly too all 3 in the one patient.
Although I do find the harmful wax in foods to be un-believable, since FSANZ (Australia) would be onto it like a hawk. Or the FDA or whatever it's called in America.
And I don't mind people eating cup noodles once in a while, as long as it is really 'once in a while," and the rest of the times they are following a healthy and balanced diet.
And at some guy earlier who claims microwave-ing food is worse than boiling, it is actually the other way around. With vegetables and such, boiling foods would leech a lot of the nutrients out into the water, namely the minerals. While other nutrients like Vitamin C would be lost during the cooking process. Some of these problems could be solved by, using just enough water to cook your veggies in. And to retain the cooking liquid and use it in other dishes such as soups/stocks.
Where as microwave-ing is usually much quicker than boiling, and it is often cooked in less water, or in the food's own juices. Thus retaining more nutrients.
I use the kettle.
Microwave noodles taste better than cooked in a pot, CUZ YOU GET TO EAT IN THE PLASTIC CUP!
@iLostTHEEGAmE: If you look at what you typed, it could easily offend someone the moment you used caps and stated "moron."
But I've always seen "do not microwave" on the lid, so I would assume that you shouldn't even microwave it.
@iLostTHEEGAmE: You made me lose the game.
And lol. That was soooo hurtful.
Its not actual wax its edible wax(still bad for u) which is why the companies can still make it. Believe what you want, I'm just saying what I believe in. So you guys can eat instant noodles, or whatever you want. I'll stick with the healthier choices.

Your right, once and awhile is fine. I didn't mean to say that if you ate it you would die. My point was that eating these things CAN/ OR COULD increase your chances. Also, Thanks for saying it nicely rather than that other guy.
Lol, I try to be polite.
Just because you're pressed for time and make a quick cup of noodles once in a while doesn't mean you're going to die at an early age.
Actually, I was just watching the news today with one of my roommates about this guy who was on a diet of mainly Little Debbie Snacks(Zebra Cakes, I think), Zingers, Twinkies...etc. I mean, he still did add in stuff like veggies for certain nutrients. He lost...17lbs...? Or was it 27...I don't remember. One of those.
Edit: Was 27. This is one video but if you google it, you'll find a bunch of stuff.

cuz its faster than waiting for water to boil... or is it?
i use one of those water things where you pour the water
and i pour some hot water and leave it to sit for a while
So you never ever indulge in fast food? Not even once in a while?
I do eat fast food once and awhile, but usually I make my own food ex. sandwhich and bring it wherever I go in case I get hungry.
You're an idiot.
I'm going to alert myth-busters, but this is not mass hysteria... this is just a singular moron being a moron.
Yeah, well, go ahead and eat your crap, well see whos an idiot when you die first.
Edit: And fyi, im just telling these things to people who want to know, you can say its wrong, the whole world can say what I said was wrong. AND even IF it isn't true, it doesn't hurt for people to know.
Who the hell microwaves noodles.. O.o.. It specifically says on the lid not to.. Styrofoams toxic when microwaved, no? O___O Can't you see the cup physically melt too O__O?
You microwave the water, not the cup...gg.
A lot of people microwave them because we're in a hurry and/or we don't have a stove to boil water in.
Personally, I live on the top floor on my dorm building and we don't have an elevator. The closest stove is down 8 flights of stairs and through a giant courtyard. I'd rather not travel all that way when I can just do it in the microwave that sits on my desk. Especially when I'm in a hurry to get to work or class.
@Coffee: idk the styrofoam gets all warm and then I feel like eating it along with the noodles
when you pour it in I think it has a cleaner taste
Cup noodles = gross
Not really.
Well I'm not going to lick it.
So you never ever indulge in fast food? Not even once in a while?
Cup Noodles are really, really bad for you. Food at Fast food restaurants are probably better than you. Cup Noodles are fried, processed, have a high sodium content, and a high fat amount.
Cup noodles are nasty. Even more so with microwaved water instead of boiling water.

Most wax is edible, and next to none are bad for you, and neither are in any type of ramen... Seriously, did you even read the links that the other guy posted?
Because when I am in the office for hours and I have nothing but a cup of noodles, bottle of water and a microwave, they taste amazing
I dont eat cup noodles. Cup noodles = covered in wax = leads to cancer.
Pretty much everything these days leads to cancer ._.
Instant noodles do NOT have wax. It's an old internet hoax.
If they coated their noodles with certain forms of wax, the FDA would be all over their arses by now.
No. Its not if you microwave it or pour hot water. The noodles themselves are covered in wax. The wax is there so the noodles will be able to not stick together. It is also there for packaging structure reasons. Have you ever noticed almost all instant noodles they come in a circle or square all clumped together? Thats the wax.
I have actually tested if there was wax in instant noodles. I got 3 different brands, poured hot water into them then I got a strainer, poured the noodles into it, rinsed the noodles with water, removed the noodles. And at the bottom of my sink, you can see white clumps and bits. That is the wax from the noodles.
Actually, the drain off is starch from the noodles themselves. Also, the noodles are kept together by being deep fried in oil, not with wax. I kind of want to hear where you heard this though.
go eat your supersize cheese burger and large c0kec
wow this thread has to be a week old.. and for the record i dont like cheese burgers and i dont drink soda
Cup noodles= awesome
Microwaving it= I heard the foam kinda melts and releases toxic.
it's so gross when people put the water in the cup and microwave it
i boil the water in microwave then pour it in
how is it in any way different
the electrons still have the same effect on the water, if anything it would only cook faster in the microwave
1. fast and easy
...thats
thats it
Bowl ramen> cup noodles
noodles are just bad in general
it's so gross when people put the water in the cup and microwave it
i boil the water in microwave then pour it in
Because microwaves are hip and kettles are not.
Shin Ramyun, Demae Itcho, Jinmailang, Kangshifu, Sapporo Ichiban (Sanyo Foods), Cup Star (Sanyo Foods), yakisoba in square shaped containers> Cup noodles
Don't forget some have MonoSodium Glutamate which is bad for you. :x
Come on now, really? Everything leads to some obscure kind of cancer. Watch, within the next week they're gonna release some study about how spinach causes toenail cancer. Be a man and eat the damned cup noodles.
No. I wont eat cup noodles. Ye, I know tons of things leads to some kind of cancer, which is why I try avoiding those things. Im trying to live longer. When I die i wanna know that I tried my best at living and that I didnt die from eating foods I could have lived on without.

Tyvm. I have a whole new perspective on instant noodles now after reading this. ._.
Isn't that mostly if you microwave it, thus them putting on the thing "do not microwave"?
But eh. I don't eat cup noodles, either. Was never fond of them. C:
