Male player, female character

I've known lots of guys that play as female characters in games. The logic is usually, "Well, if I'm looking at the game for this long I might as well be looking at a hot chick". I get it, and while I think its weird, to each their own. Then I see a game like maplestory, where there is so little detail in the character design where aside from the face the male and female bodies are pretty hard to differentiate. Even with this, there are so many males that choose to play as female characters. I'm trying to figure out the logic behind why this is done. I can't imagine that they actually get some kind of kick when they see a female maplestory sprite. Is it a gender identity thing? Do they really find maplestory chicks hot? What's the deal man? I'm not offended by it or anything, it's just something I've been curious about for so long. Also, are there a lot of females that choose to play as male characters?

Obviously this excludes gender-locked classes.

My boyfriend makes girl characters sometimes because the default male characters for some classes are so ridiculously ugly that even NX clothes couldn't fix that crap. Oh, and he loves trolling dumb kids.

My sister avatar EasySlash is the nicest yandere looking tsundere 3 year old girl on basilmarket. The moment she notices you; she will memorize, judge, & post at any reasonable chance to know that you are senpai or victim material.

I tend to make male characters more than female ones because the ones that have voices and are female usually make me feel a bit </3 even though my main is my ab....The guys have some fab hair and stuff. I can't really find many female styles that appeal to me since I don't spend money on getting all that fancy stuff. Oh, and I'm female. Male characters are cooler looking in my opinion :B

Even though I don't make a lot male characters, I will but that's mainly cause there's an outfit or look I'm trying to go for.
But I honestly don't care about the gender so long as I can make the outfit.

Like with gender specific class, my favorite thing to do is to make it look like the opposite gender.

lol I NEVER play with female characters. In fact, it's a big turn off for me.

The only game that I've played as a female would be leauge of legends

sometimes females just have better design choices. i don't see any problems with playing characters of the opposite sex, as long as you're not actively trying to use your character's sex to elicit services. and there's no reason for other people to be mad, unless they're desperate enough to try to pick up girls in an mmo

on a game like maplestory, i think females have better hair/eye selection. also, a lot of my characters are named after SNSD, and SNSD are girls

It doesn't bother me if people play as the opposite gender and I don't understand why it bothers anyone else. There isn't a rule that says you have to dress your maple character how you look in real life, and I'm sure the majority of maplers don't wear the same style of clothes and hairstyles in real life that match their maple characters so why should the gender matter as well? :S I look nothing like my maple character. Do people expect my hair to be brown in real life because my maple character's hair is brown? Do you think I have odd colour eyes in real life? A bunny ear hat? I dress my maple character with what I think looks nice because we aren't meant to be matching what we look like in real life!

In MS, I just split my characters to be half male half female. My bucc is my main dude.

On other games, I usually go for male first, then I consider female after. (Did this in gta online but stuck with first guy due To rank)

i dont identify thru my char ...no personal attchment. i make chars like they are the character of their own story, and so i just choose whatever gender i feel like going with for that class

That's pretty interesting, I never thought about it in terms of the perks of playing as a female or the expectations of playing as a male.

The way I see it.. Female chars tends to have more benefits in game. They are invited more in parties, pqs, runs, etc. It's also easier to ask for stuff and correct me if I'm wrong, female chars are not expected to be "pro" in game unlike male characters.
Also, as what my guy friends who plays girl chars, they said that it's because female chars look much cuter than males. Some does it for trolls.
