Help Me Help You

I'm another year older and I have officially became what many of you would see as an "old woman" and in honor of my old age I would like to help you. I used to post help/ask me anything threads such as this frequently about a year ago and I miss helping y'all. I will be blunt and honest and I hope I can help you with your questions if you'll allow me. I've grown a lot in the past year and had many traumatic experiences that I've learned from that I think will help me give you great advice or at the very least help you see a different viewpoint on your issue. Feel free to be as detailed as you like. You can ask anything.

@Collee: Word

Ya, anger never crossed my mind. I didn't care too much, but it could have been a potential friendship in the making. Maybe next time.

Thanks

Since you're one of basil's most active trolls you shouldn't be surprised. I'm sure he or she does not feel comfortable discussing their personal problems with someone who he or she thinks will not take them seriously. This person probably thought your message was a joke in itself. There is no reason for anger to even cross your mind.

So, there's this girl who I know from school (well we graduated) and her party was gonna be this Saturday (May 30th). It was one of the few parties I wanted to go to, because she's cool and I'm good friends with her sister.

But of course, they changed the date to June 13th, which is the date of my grad party! And it's my birthday! And the parties are at the same time! And I was probably gonna invite her and her sister to my party! And it's not like I can leave my party to go to hers, can I?

Lol, what a coincidence! They couldn't have picked June 6th, or 7th, or 14th...
Also, I never wanted my grad party in the first place, especially on my birthday, but my parents insisted and already invited some people.

What's your advice?
If it is possible I'd talk to her and ask if your parties can be combined into one and then celebrate your birthday on a different day. You could contribute to/split the costs of the party and combine guest lists. I'm sure some of your friends want to go her party as well and no one should have to pick one or the other. If your parents and hers are cool with it I'm sure you'll have more fun with one big party.

If you can't combine parties/don't want to/parents aren't cool with it, you should tell your parents that you don't want your party and you'd prefer to go to her's. Say that even though their efforts to throw a party are appreciated that you want to celebrate graduation with everyone and that having a separate party keeps you from your friends. Hopefully they will be understanding.

I don't think you should leave your party to go to another one, so either cancel yours, combine the two, or suck it up and stick with your party

@iDrinkOJ: All depends on the class. Ask the pretty girl out, the worst she can say is no.

@Missy:Ferrets bite and technically are not domesticated. I personally find them to be dangerous because they're unpredictable. My friend had one and had to get rid of it because it was destroying her house. I'd also worry about it having problems with your dog. I think a hedgehog would make a better second pet.

@ZetraDedd: No. That can ruin your life if you're caught and if you're receiving financial aid they'll take it away. Don't ruin your life for quick money.

@MountainJew: I am not vapid, egocentric, nor a twit. I don't know where you got that from or why you feel justified in making such a serious judgement about me.

@sammmmmich: I have been through extreme relationship issues involving friends, family, and boyfriends. I've learned to deal with many types of personalities. The trauma I've been through involves my personal health and the health of those close to me which I am not comfortable discussing publicly. But I will say in regards to my health it was one of the most horrible things you can go through as a woman.

I don't think my advice will be great. The advice I give is similar to that you would receive from a friend. Though I am not your friend, I am an extremely caring person that really wants to help and I love every person on some level. Many people on basil do not have friends they can talk to about things, or they have friends that may sugar coat things or tell them what they want to hear. I am objective because I am not involved in your personal life. It's your choice if you want to take me up on my offer. I take no offense in your bluntness, I understand your skepticism but I have been able to help people in the past and it's sometimes nice to hear different perspectives.

Just out of curiosity.. That is, if you don't mind me asking;
What traumatic experiences have you gone through and learned things from?
Which sorta ties into; What makes you believe that you are capable of giving great advice/help on a numerous amount of things none of which, I am sure, you are vastly knowledgeable about ?

I apologize if this comes across as invasive or as rash and blunt as it's sounding to me- I in no way mean it as such. I am, in all honestly curious
Why should I go seek help from you?- Would be the simple question here.

What about selling drugs? Seriously, a few kids at my school do it and make bank, I'm talking 1k+ a night. A bunch of other kids sell drugs too and they're making decent pay. Nothing great but still good.

i love this thread. it put a smile on my face because it's not created for the purpose of trolling and you genuinely want to help

anyways, should i get a ferret? i have a maltese (tbh i'd have a bigger dog, specifically an eskimo, if i could but i live in a one bedroom apartment) but ferrets are so playful and active. i'd consider getting a hedgehog but they are very shy and don't really do much (but they are so cute). i just want a lot of pets except birds and i don't know what to do

@ZetraDedd: It was a great idea to spend sometime relaxing before college because college is tough work. You shouldn't feel bad about not having a job. You should be proud of yourself that you were smart enough to save money so that you wouldn't have to work. Most teenagers spend their money as soon as they get it. You're smarter than many.

Any certifications help in getting a job because it shows that you've gone above and beyond your standard school coursework. Put those certifications on your resume, and emphasize them in a job interview. It's all about how you sell yourself. I'm sorry but I do not know anyone in northern California that can give you a job. Maybe someone else here does?

College is different than high school, no one is holding your hand any longer. Many people that excel in high school do poorly in college, such as my sister. And many people that do poorly in high school excel in college, such as myself. If you do well managing your time on your own, do your reading, take charge on your studying, and don't enjoy someone constantly checking your progress on assignments you will do well in college.

@Seodan: A good idea would be to start volunteering at an animal shelter, that way you can spend more time around animals and determine which pet you prefer. You'll also preform tasks such as feeding, grooming, cleaning up their potty messes, and playing with them so you'll get a good idea of what it takes to take care of a pet. A book may also be beneficial.
To keep them alive:
-always have plenty of pet food
-make sure they always have water available
-potty train them
-train them (dogs)
-walk them (dogs)
-groom them
-bathe them
-vaccinate them
-get them sterilized
-don't leave them outside
-socialize them with other dogs (dogs)
-love them and give them attention (most important!)
Not many people like my comics, how make people like my comic?
Keep practicing and put them out there more. Different people have different taste, not every type of comic is for everyone. I'm sure they'll only get better the more you create!

@luckysausage: It depends on your relationship to the girl. Is she your girlfriend? Best female friend? Casual friend? Honestly gift cards are great gifts for girls because most of us love to shop! The best tip I have is to pay attention to the girl's interests and personal style. It makes us feel good that you really paid attention to us and put thought into it.

@SirKibbleX2: I had the same issue. I use http://www.meetup.com to make friends. I am part of a pug group, several disneyland groups, a nerd girl group, and a nerd group for all genders. You can find meetups for any interest and most of the people you meet are very kind. I highly recommend it.
Not many people like my comics, how make people like my comic?
There are a lot of ways you could approach this question.

How to make your comic better from a technical standpoint? Read this, and see if you can find other books in a similar vein.

How to make your comic better from an artistic standpoint? There are tons and tons of resources about learning how to draw better, I really couldn't say, but I think Proko is a good place to start learning.

How to make your comic's narrative delivery better? Here's my take, but there are tons of other narratologists talking about storytelling in film, games, novels, and comics. Try checking out Film Crit Hulk.

How to make your comic better in terms of popularity? Again, people spend their lives trying to figure out what makes things popular. Just read more, study up on the topic.

I want to be a pet owner sometime in the near future (dog or cat, I haven't decided) but I've never had one before and don't know anything about it. What are the necessities I need to know if I'm going to keep my furry friend alive?
I'm currently 17 years old and I'm moving in less than a month. I thought it'd be wise to spend my last time in highschool relaxin so I quit my job. I have enough $ to support myself from now til college but it sucks knowing a lot of other people have jobs and I don't.

I didn't do the best in highschool. I sometimes feel like I can't do well. Do you think it's possible for someone to completely change and become excellent going into college? I think I'm capable of it.
i know this is her thread but ...
a lot of people didn't have jobs in high school, period. It's fine that you don't have a job for a month, d/w about it

sure you can, i'm presuming you didn't try in high school, just start trying now

That's my biggest current issue.

I also would like to know how useful will my Microsoft PowerPoint, word and excel certifications be in my near future towards getting a job? How can I get a job using those certifications? Like what's the best way. Do you know anyone in the northern Cali area that could give me a job?
