Any game that has a grinding component (this includes Maplestory) can fill that quota. Grinding-oriented games are literally built to be time sinks.

civilzation V. your first solo game is gonna take you about 8-15hrs to complete. if you dont fully hate the game after that then your in for thousands of hours of games

If you're looking for only free games, take a spin on Starcraft 2. Though the single-player only story mode is not free, most of the multiplayer modes are free. Since you'll have Battle.net doing that, you could sink hours on Heroes of the Storm which is also free if that's something for you.
