High Sat low Gpa

So guys, I got back my SAT results and got a 1900 total (690 math, 600 reading, 610 writing). Now I'm very happy with these results but I want to know if they are convincing for someone who has a 2.7 accumulative. I was very lazy for my first two years of HS and now I'm doing better. Do you think a university will accept someone who has a high SAT and an improving GPA? I'm not looking for Ivy league... Just some average to god university in the US.

With that combo, it would be best to do a 2 year college then transfer to a 4 year

You will be fine.

Ok, uhh, you're going to be a Senior meaning you'll have more time to work on your grades. You'll also be able to take the SAT a second time, which I highly recommend you do. There should be scholarship opportunities - Sometimes they require both a GPA minimum and SAT minimum, or sometimes just one. As long as your GPA doesn't drop, I'm sure you'll be fine. Oh, and if you're looking to apply to colleges in the U.S. Central Time Zone I would recommend taking the ACT. I know a few people who had low GPAs, but having a decent score on the ACT helped them. You already have a decent SAT score, ACT shouldn't be too difficult, so with decent scores on both... Again, you'll be fine!

That actually makes you look good. Since your GPA is low. OR they might take it that you're lazy in school but has the head for a better GPA.

GPA/SATs aren't everything. You need good extracurriculars.

I had a 4.0 GPA and 34 on the ACTs in highschool and I didn't get into some top schools because other people had better ECs. Got into plenty of top 20s though so it's ok.

Oh wait... I think the US has a different grading system because my average is actually like 80-81%. It's just that I'm in an IB school and I did not take much IB classes so they do everything to make me suffer. The classes that usually drop my grade are English and (sometimes) History. My Math has never went below 90 in my whole HS career and I barely even try I'm very lazy.... I love history but I don't like the way my school teaches it and does tests on it.

I'm one of those people who like to learn on the internet. I learn a lot about physics through wikipedia and Youtube. I also like to learn about history but somehow my grade is really bad...

@iceychill2 Unweighted.

1900 isn't "high sat". my area's average is 1700, i get 2240, and that's still not high. 2300 is high.
I wouldn't worry too much... I've only got a 2.9 GPA, along with a 25 on my ACT and I got accepted in Michigan State, although I'll just be going to MCC ( a community college ) for two years. Really don't see why people bother with spending thousands on loans for practically the same core classes...
Only people going to community colleges say this (which you are).

OP: Does your school rank?

@Spartanbrand: What part of Texas are you in? o.o I live in DFW and we just use the 100 point system.

Like other people have said, work to get that GPA of yours up and do some extracurriculars like community service and school clubs.
And 1900 is not average, it's way above. A friend of mine got a National Merit Scholarship for getting around 2050.

Your GPA is really low and your SAT score, although decently above average (average being around 1650), isn't good enough to make up for it. But don't fret, you'll definitely get into a University, though not an outstanding one, but decent. You should really try and raise your GPA as much as you can, such a low GPA would also give you low financial aid and grants for colleges. But yeah, you can still get into University, but based on your SAT scores and GPA, I would assume that you're the lazy type that doesn't like to try. You should think about applying for community college and transfer to a UC / University, it would improve your habits and also make up for your low GPA in high school since the college you'll transfer to will only care about the GPA you earned from the community college you transferred from.

1900 is pretty crappy. All these comforting messages do nothing. What you need to do is acknowledge and correct your mistakes/failures.
@Valued Correct me if I'm wrong here... but isn't 4.0 GPA max? I'm Swedish, so I have no idea what UCI is. But ig you did get more than max on your GPA, and have almost what he has in SAT, which is average I assume, I think they'd take you in. Not sure though. I'm not 'Murican after all.
5.0 is the max if you take AP classes, UCI is the University of California, Irvine.

There really is no "good college." It depends on what you're going to do.

For example, Stony Brook University (where I go) is ranked 92 in the nation (with a 40% acceptance rate). However, those aspiring to go into nuclear physics would rather go here because it is ranked 4 in that area and Brookhaven National Laboratory is very close to it.

OP, you should actually apply here if you're not Asian. You'll get accepted easily.
Most would agree that a good college is one that is ranked in the top 50 of the thing you're mayoring in

Most colleges require a certain GPA average.

The one I go to requires a 3.0+ GPA

Another thing to remember, if you do end up going to a CC for a couple years, you're going to be in a lot less debt than going to a state school the whole 4 years.

At least a 2000 would be pretty decent...
And really, 2.7? I would never settle for less than a 3.5...
At this point, don't go for the "I'll do a little better each year" argument.
You better work your butt of to make it near 3.5.

You can't even get into any of the UCs... Not even the worst ones. The general requirement is 3.0 GPA.

Let me give you some good advice:
Go to a community college for 2 years, get all your GEs done then transfer to a college of your choice. Much cheaper, and you have way better chances at getting in.

Since your GPA is really bad, you need a really good SAT to balance it out.(And an impressive list of accomplishments/extra curriculars).
I'm the same boat as you but my GPA much worse than yours. I'm going to take Honors and AP classes next year as a senior and going to study. Then going to Community college then transfer out. :
I'm 2.1 GPA (I know its horrible. Did bad in Freshie, Soph and somewhat Junior.) Computer gaming got me so addicted I couldn't manage myself.
I'm taking my ACT in the Fall though </3

But thats a good a good SAT score. You can take re-take it. It would be an advantage. Boost your GPA up though
