So I started watching Sao

I must say, I've been on the wrong bandwagon. It's actually really goood.... I'm on episode 7, the romance is in the air.

I have issues with SAO, both with the novel and the anime.

The anime stops getting interesting once you get past the first arc. Things just speeds up and up, making the pacing feels rushed. Too much action too little detail.

The novel on the other hand I simply cannot stomach. I don't know if the author has ran out of idea or not but there is multiple attempted "r" scenes in this series (sorry I had to use the word "r", but you know what word I'm talking about). Those of you who watched season 1 of SAO already got a taste of it. Let's just say there is more similar scenes later on.

@duriel123: The problem is that nobody (or at least for the most part) actually tries to give valid reasons as to why they feel it's bad. It's just mindless bashing because it makes them look cool or something. I'm all for intelligent discussions, it's just an impossibility on this forum where it's a mob mentality. Not to mention SAO is -the- series to bash on here, so it feels futile in regards to this one series in particular.
If someone enjoys a series, why would they care what is supposedly wrong with it? I could analyze SO many series that people cherish and fill them full of holes. But would anyone who liked that series care? No, because they enjoyed the series. It's pointless.

People like what they like. If someone likes a "bad" series, then let them like a bad series.
And for what it's worth, I thought SAO was a fun ride.
While I see your point, I do believe there is value in expressing opinions about shows. There are people (myself included) that love reading about other people's thoughts regarding a show and discussing various aspects of a show with other people. Criticism does not exist solely to bash on other people.
Of course there is nothing wrong with enjoying SAO and leaving it at that, but there is no need to bash on people who genuinely believe SAO is mediocre and provide valid criticism in a civil manner. Blatantly bashing on anyone who expresses an critical opinion discourages discussion.

OP made a thread expressing his enjoyment of the show. I assume that he wants to hear what other people think about the show. if not, why would he bother making a thread? If OP didn't want to hear what we thought at all, the thread wouldn't be here. In this specific case I see nothing wrong with posting critical opinions of SAO as long it is done in a civil manner.

You know, I used to be part of the SAO hate bandwagon too because it was the cool and hip thing to do. But then I realized I have more important things to do than go troll on forums with 50 point lists on why a certain anime show sucks and then proceed to bash fans of said show, life's way too short for that. Don't be discouraged by the people hating on the show, because you know, hating is the cool and hip thing to do.

You think SAO is awesome? I don't care. You think SAO is some trash-tier anime that panders to the worst of the weeb crowd? I still don't care. Just keep doing what you enjoy.

It bothers me more that you, like I'm sure plenty of others do, judged it before really giving it a chance. How you got past the animation and boring dialogue in the first few episodes is beyond me.

It's fun, you should continue watching it.

Ignite was basically opening of the year as well, Daze was up there too.

@simroh1 Mechatronics is more suited at doing everything after a BCI has been developed. The device in Mother's Rosario which will not be described for the sake of spoilers is what I'm thinking about. That and better prosthetic could definitely make life better for disabled people.

The second half of SAO's first season seems weirdly out of place. For instance, ALO has magic, but they stated earlier on in the anime that SAO doesn't include any magic because people would rather be sword fighting rather than standing there casting spells. Like I can understand that there was a time gap and people got used to the technology, but I still can't think of a reason to play that "full dive" type of game if you're just going to stand around casting spells. You can do that on a normal video game that doesn't have a reputation of trapping people within the game and killing them. The plotline with Saito's sister doesn't really fit in, I don't think it should exist at all. There was no reason to include that in an anime where the main character has a stable relationship. They got married in the game, chances are he's not going to end up with his sister, so was there any reason to make her act like that?

I never watched season 2, I just couldn't suspend my disbelief anymore. Who sends a person into their game to fix a potential glitch?

I found the first half of SAO pretty enjoyable despite all its glaring flaws. The world is charming and the idea was cool, but it really didn't live up to any of my expectations.

I finished SAO II this weekend and QQed. My major in university is Mechatronics Engineering, and the show gave me a new life purpose.
its not good, watch it again and tell me how rushed the story is, how worthless most of the characters/storylines are, how badly underdeveloped the MC and supporting characters are, what they were smoking when that decided to continue the story with ALO and made Asuna, a promising female protag, into a worthless trophy.
This anime has a mediocre 1st half and an unbearable 2nd
I'll agree with you on that, the SAO arc (first 14 episodes) had its flaws but was the most interesting part of the series. It's what the author decided to take the story afterwards that's the problem...

imma say this, the creator likes to make a character extremely interesting, then doesnt make them relevant anymore for the rest of the series. but if u like his work, u should read Accel World if ur into manga or light novels
