What is Your 5-year plan?
I like setting goals, both realistic and unrealistic. Whether or not I succeed in accomplishing these goals/objectives, I just enjoy writing them down.
My brief and basic 5-year plan:
- finish my undergraduate degree in +/- 3 years
- to participate in an international internship during school
- work in my country for a year after graduating (pay my student loans)
- decide whether or not to go to graduate school
- brushing up on my french and spanish as I explore the world *o*
I want to know YOUR 5-year plan!

@Ecliptic:
It's 150 credits in accounting courses that business majors would not typically take. Accounting courses include taxation, auditing, advanced, intermediate (which is usually broken up into 2 or three courses as its a huge bridge course), and a lot of tax, FASB, and other GAAP related courses that a business major would never have to take. Accounting majors more or less take the bulk of business courses though on top of their specialized accounting course load. Not the other way around.
@betaboi101: Do you specifically need a MAcc for the CPA or just any masters with the required amount of courses in business? If it's just the business courses, it would make more sense to just pick up an MBA after 2-3 years then get the CPA.
@betaboi101: wow, never knew you needed a masters for the CPA in the states.
To sit for it you need to take the specified 150 credits worth of courses included in an undergraduate and graduate program. Some schools offer a 3-2 program where you stay for 5 years undergrad and the last 2 years you take all graduate accounting classes and you graduate with both a masters and bachelors. But yea I want my MBA as well since the Masters in accounting is kind of useless after you get the CPA . I mean unless you want to pursue your doctorates and become an accounting professor or something.
@09080706l: But then again, maybe it's good to have your experience with animation school before travelling! Maybe it's as rewarding, if not more rewarding to have your animation knowledge while travelling (finding more inspiration and sparking your creativity in ways you otherwise couldn't have without exposure from your education)
@betaboi101: wow, never knew you needed a masters for the CPA in the states.
@Ecliptic:
You need the masters in accounting to sit for the CPA exam and can do a 3-2 program for it or just do an undergraduate then masters program instead. I'm not going for finance career wise at all. For an MBA specializing means taking a few more classes in the specialty. Also, since I'm going for the masters in accounting, I am taking the majority of classes that an MBA would take so it would only make sense to take a few additional classes to also go for the MBA as well. The degree in finance is more of an extra credential just in case later on in life, I decide that I'm not really feeling the accountant path (which believe it or not, many accountants usually end up doing since as you get older, tax season is a LOT vs when you are younger).
1. Finish grad school + get my masters in accounting as well as an MBA in finance
2. Pass the CPA
3. Work full time and move out on my own asap
4. Work my way up at the firm I'm currently working with and hopefully make partner (probably more like 7-10 years realistically )
Why would you get an MAcc and then an MBA?
Makes way more sense to just get an MBA, plus a CPA doesn't really help with finance.
@lukiie Sometimes I feel like I should've taken a gap year before heading off to animation school. I love the two years I've been in this school right now, but having a year to travel and see things is pretty rewarding. I wouldn't say that my decision was detrimental in any ways, it's just that now I might've considered traveling to be more valuable now that I have less and less time.
And I can certainly see the popularity of Disney/Pixar - being one of the world's most influential studios, it's something to be proud of for how much they inspire and entertain the audience. So working there more of a dream job than anything else. Despite the competitiveness, I'll have to say that animation is a very healthy market to be in right now - there's always prospecting employers scouting for talent. And as long as I'm happy about what I do, then I don't really mind not finding myself a spot in Disney or Pixar.
Become a WWE wrestler and get the World Heavyweight Championship.
Try to get an awesome job.
@newt236 lol, I know someone who has similar plans! haha
@Chema: Quite thrilled by fantasy. One of the reasons why I make goals
Totally satisfied now! Cool field to get a PhD in, make me a Chappie <3
@betaboi101 totally forgot about the moving out part haha. I think that'll be in under 10 years rather than in 5 years though!
@ZetraDedd I understood what he was trying to communicate, it just wasn't what I was looking for thanks for pointing it out though~
@09080706l you're the second one that wanted to get a job with Disney and Pixar! haha, that's awesome *o* fooq time constraints! Sometimes, I think about disappearing for a year to go travel
does dying count
Not chronological, but I'll very likely get to do these:
1) Finish by BFA-Animation
2) Apply for animator's internship
3) Start working as a professional animator
4) Get in a relationship in the process.
5) Learn Spanish and French
Financially possible, but unable to do because of time constraints:
1) Go visit my friend living in Sao Paulo
2) Mountain climbing in Norway
Ambitious/Unrealistic:
1) Job at Walt Disney Animation Studios or Pixar (Due to lack of previous feature film experience)
2) Job as an art director (same reason as above)
1. Finish grad school + get my masters in accounting as well as an MBA in finance
2. Pass the CPA
3. Work full time and move out on my own asap
4. Work my way up at the firm I'm currently working with and hopefully make partner (probably more like 7-10 years realistically )
It seems you have plenty to talk about, but not much to contribute to my original post.
Because there is not much to talk about unless you are thrilled by talking about fantasy:
-Doing a PhD in AI
-Getting a stable job (lol)
-Having 2 kids
-Raise a white picket fence
-Buy a dog
-Learning 5 languages and travel the world
U happy now?
It seems you have plenty to talk about, but not much to contribute to my original post.
He actually gave pretty good advice, and it relates to your topic. It may have a pessimistic tone to it, but it really isn't pessimistic, it's wise.
get to challenger
Slay a dragon.
Within the 5 year span many things can happen
Something may prevent you from fulfilling your plan or a more profitable road becomes available or you just find out your plan was not good after all
Sure It is good to have long-term goals, but make sure you give priority to establish milestones, always reevaluate the goal when a milestone is met and make changes accordingly
Long-term goals should be taken as a guide, not as a definitive outcome
get sleep
graduate with my associates degree
hopefully find a gf
look for some internships and or a job
go back for my bachelors degree
@Chema I did mention that my plans may not be realistic but I disagree with your statement. I want to know why you think 5-year plans are unrealistic
@ShammyShakes: I believe that if it is something you have the passion for, even if you don't get in the first time, you'll eventually make it in. Then again, there are so many forces affecting your life that it's hard to predict where you'll end up, so regardless of getting into med school, I'm sure you'll find a way to PROFIT (since that was your end goal haha )
what if i don't get in :0
with that mindset, you never will!
@AbsymalTorment
@krishman I like how 'not get pregnant' came before 'possibly have sex'
@ShammyShakes hook me up when you're a practicing physician
@TheZigen I hope it wont be a painful type of death. Unless you want that... o.o
A 5 year personal plan is never realistic
